Tried searching the thread (perhaps I'm blind), I'd like to know what a common size build is for the base of a 3rd gen (short bed) frame.

There is very little difference between the 2nd gen short bed and the 3rd gen short bed. I believe the main difference is in tailgate height which effects the rear door.

I could easily be wrong, but there are very little overall differences between 2nd and 3rd gen trucks besides the engine/trans combo.

3rd gen has higher bedsides (not sure by how much) and has the bedrails set at a different height. The tailgate is also thicker.

Well I saw some rust water spots in the bed, pulled a bolt and the frame was full of water. I drained all the water, drilled some holes in the frame and recaulked the seams.
