I've been following this one as well. I think I can come up with something pretty interesting as far as a wedge camper bolted directly to the mounting points on top of my 4Runner - and no bed rack.

Maybe John and I will take over mod days completely with these builds :spy:

Ok great. I think I'll close of the tent on all sides just to be safe. Planning on insulating and using it in the winter as well.

    Thanks!

Build it as a RTT instead of a full camper (so no hole in the floor) then mount it to whatever you want.

not a bad idea ive got a rtt already and ive been trying to think of a way to seal the bed rack or cover it im tired of it being open to the elements

That wouldn't do anything to seal the rest of the bed rack. You would be best doing a full camper if that is your goal.

ya right now im wondering if i could take it to a fabric shop and have the entire thing done up like a soft topper on the outside it wouldnt seal it really but it would cover it from the elements a bit more then what an open rack does but i do like the camper idea

Cool seeing these custom campers. Someone in the Tahoe area is selling a custom variant similar to this on CL

Radical build. Looking at time and space as a reality, do you think this would be a decent space frame replacement? I was thinking you could mount the extruded wedge frame parts right to the little "L" spots on the existing "utility" rig.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

The Version 2.0 Camper is under construction currently and details of which can be seen on the "V2" tab of the google drive spreadsheet. It is mostly the same as V1, just some fit and finish improvements.

Nice build! Considering doing this for my 87’ Toyota Pickup 4x4 5MT Short Bed. This looks like a fun project! Any recommendations? If I were to make a change off of the pictures you posted, I would like to make the sides of the camper, flush with the bed sides. Other than that its a killer build!

I wanted the camper narrower than the bedsides for when i'm in tight areas.
