@Blue92 , My truck doesn't already have the map lights. Will the wiring and connector still be in the headliner or will I have to splice into the A-pillar wiring, buy some wire , run it through the headliner, then splice into the connector that goes into the connector?

You'll likely have to do it just like I did. Splicing the wire into the A-Pillar. But youre a pre 01, so you may wanna do some more research on it to get a definite answer as I only know for sure on the later body style trucks.

I see youre in Roanoke, isnt there a Pick-N-Save up there and in Lynchburg? They post their inventory online so you may wanna check to see what they got.

Yeah, I was at pick n save a couple weeks ago and I saw exactly what I needed for this but I didn't know if it was a possibility to put it in my truck. I should've just bought it but I didn't. I actually talked to a buddy today and he bought a 2nd gen 4runner parts truck yesterday so he's going to check when he gets home.

I just bought the other one they had in a lighter gray. Not a terrible price for the convenience.

My 99 sr5 extracab didn't have a mirror light from.factory. I wired mine in parallel to the dome light and it works great. You have to run two wires to the dome light harness. The harness is the same. The screws will provide the ground for the light when the doors are closed.

This is the light I’m getting from a friend. It came out of a 2nd gen 4runner. The picture shows how it was connected in his truck. Which wires will I splice to what in my 2000 tacoma8EA71CB0-EB4C-4EA3-BCE8-3A06B8DEB318.jpgC978F1EB-9436-4B4A-BFA0-39AE74ECB4B9.jpg

Easiest way is to wire color to matching color to the dome light. You don't even need to pull off a pillar trim

How do you do that? Wouldn’t it be harder to splice a wire up in the headliner? I might be more interested in splicing into the wires in the A pillar like @Blue92 did. I was just interested in what wires need to be spliced together from the light to the wires in the a pillar

Kinda hard to do that when the wire for this light is non existent in the map light location in some Tacos haha. Also our dome light wires are black.
Red/silver wire goes to black/white in A pillar. Red/green goes to solid black.

Unscrew a visor and fish the wire with coat hanger. Run through a loom or wrap wires with tape. To prevent chafing. Or I guess you could remove the dome light see the colors and match to the same colors at the pillar.

On my 1999 sr5 extended cab it's the exact same harness. You could in effect plug in the mirror to the dome light harness.

I was guessing that the 2000 Taco and 99 were the same harness

Well. About to do the lighted key cylinder, door actuated map light, wire a dash cam to a usb on my headunit, and install the 4WD indicator light for my transfer case o_O

From what I understand I'll have to add a wire for the map light and splice into the black/white a pillar wire. Then splice my lighted key cylinder into that same a pillar wire? Already have a map light rear view mirror to begin with.

Yup just read the write up, it shows what wire to tap both into. The other wire on the keylight will go to chasis somewhere.

Yeah just confirming what I gathered from the write up. A lot of people seem to be hard wiring their key lights to always be on. And splice into the dome light for the map light.

I'd rather splice into the same point on the a pillar to limit how many splices I do.

Good plan. Toyota doesnt leave any extra wire so make as few splices as possible.
