Did you measure how much you drained out?

You have either overfilled your transmission or by some means other than draining the pan - have drained more fluid than what you get from a pan drain.

    Thanks, great post!!!

Are there any pictures of the transmission fill hole that could be put on the original post? I found it but it's way up high on passenger side and I wasn't 100% sure I had it right except it was the only 24mm.

The plug has "WS" stamped on it, sounds like you have the right one.

I thought so, I went for a drive after and it didn't blow up :bananadead: so that's good.

Thanks for the great post. Just finished my drain and fill at 30k miles.

    A few particulars:
    2015 TRD OR DCSB 4.0
Drained a tad over 2.5 qts
Refilled with Valvoline MaxLife. Added back a little over 3.5 qts.
Drained out about .5 qts checking the level. All total added back about 3.2 qts. I guess mine was almost 1 qt low from the factory.

Entering temp check mode, the light did not illuminate at all when I returned the shifter to Park. It only illuminated for 2 secs after the 6th N-D-N cycle. OP said it would light up when returned to P but mine did not.

Took almost 15 mins of idle time to reach proper temp and illuminate the light.

My 2015 acted the same way.

I wonder if they made a programming change in the '15s?

Hoping someone can help me out real quick. Doing a 1st time drain/refill on my '13 V6 4x4 w/tow. pulled the 5mm check nut and had just shy of a quart come out. Had me thinking it was over filled. pulled the 14mm drain and just shy of 2 quarts came out. Total drained is about 2 3/4 quarts.

Do I refill with 2 or 3 quarts????

Were you in the temp check mode? If not, fill with 3 quarts and get her to temp and follow the directions.

    3 quarts minimum.

You want to overfill the transmission, then, once at temperature, drain it out of the level port until there is a slight trickle of fluid running out.

I was using a very nice thermal imaging camera made by MSA to check weather my scan gauge was giving me a good trans temperature. It did .it was with in a 1 or 2 degrees .

    Sorry...
In the big D.I.Y. ATF Flush thread, read replies from Crom... beginning on page 14 or 15, I think https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-full-flush-for-automatic-transmission.68462/page-15

I hired Crom to do the flush on my 2010 Tacoma (at 90,000 miles)... and it was perfect! My truck has shifted much smoother ever since, too.

    Here is more: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-and-adventures.362772/page-43#post-11372529

My report on Crom's procedure on my truck:

I ended up replacing my read output shaft seal today along with a drain and refill on the transmission. Completed in two hours (with a trip to Lowes for a PVC seal driver). Transmission shifts much better and have peace of mind knowing my seal isn't dripping anymore. I recommend the drain and refill for anyone who is experiencing hard shift points at random intervals!

says to use computer to check temp of fluid and not ir temp gun. how about Fluke meter with temp probe and make hook and dip it inside transmission through level check hole?
