I try and use AMSOIL trans fluid whenever possible. Nissan Titan 192,000, 84 MB 300SD, 254,000 so the Amsoil site says their ATF meets or exceeds TOY. I will stick with AMSOIL.:duel:

Another grateful member that benefitted from this tutorial. Not sure this had ever been done on my '05 Tacoma, but the drained fluid wasn't too dark or smelly at 150k miles.

I have a remote filter mount with a napa/wix 1269 (51269) hydraulic filter on the transmission. It has an 8 psi bypass valve in case the filter for some reason were to clog. I have a magnefine on my power steering return line.

This article is worthy of best in class for instruction. I would only add that regarding ATF Fluid I would use AMSOIL. My son has a 2005 Nissan Titan with 200K and I have only used AMSOIL ATF even though Nissan says to use their fluid only. Great article!!:amen:

IR thermometers will lead you astray if you do not understand their assumed emissivity value. If you don't understand their emissivity calibration, do not use them.

no trying to hijack the thread... just info sharing. I need to change trans fluid this weekend so naturally I arrived at TW. I like the OP's write up... to add to it...has anyone done the same as what in this link? just curious.

Yeah, it's in another thread or somewhere in this thread that describes this same procedure. I used a garden sprayer for adding fluid back in, going through the return line from the tranny cooler rather than using the hand pump. Either way works, I just think the garden sprayer is easier.

What this guy didn't do is drop the pan and clean off the magnets and change the filter. Probably not a big deal at 50K miles, but if you are doing the work anyway, why not?

So I stripped the drain plug or pan- not sure. I screwed up and torqued it to the required spec when it was wet. The bolt is seated all the way in and cannot be budged (either direction) by hand. There is no seepage (its been roughly 24hrs).

I've since ordered a new pan, gasket, and plugs/washers. Until they arrive I still need to drive the truck. I applied a seal around the bolt using Permatex 1 minute gasket, https://www.permatex.com/products/g...ermatex-the-right-stuff-1-minute-gasket-grey/ will this be enough to get be through the next few days until the parts arrive? Thanks in advance-

    Kory

Well if it isn't leaking and there's fluid to the correct level in the transmission I'd say you are good to go.

I guess my concern is the bolt working itself loose and emptying the pan while I'm driving.

If you can't budge it, it's probably not going anywhere.

Correct, by hand, I cannot budge it. Throw a socket on it and I can move left and right.

not sure the answer your looking for. No one can guarantee its not going to come loose, and you need a vehicle. Done, drive it. I highly doubt its going to come completely out, i bet you'll notice lekaing before any major issues, if it comes to that.
