    HI All,
    First post. Great Forum.
I have a question regarding the procedure for the AT Temp.
I can get the AT Temp light to come on for 2 seconds after the N-D procedure, but when I put the gear selector back to park the AT Temp light does not come on again for 2 seconds. I am able to consistently reapeat this without the light coming on for a second time when put into park. Any thoughts?

    Thanks
    Dave

Mine does the same thing. There has been some discussion that perhaps the '12-'15 don't. It's never failed to be in temp check mode for me though

After the N-D sequence the A/T will light to indicate the system is active. Place tranny into P, the light will go off. Wait. Let the truck idle. The next time the A/T lights, then do the fluid level check. Remember, leave the truck in P, idling and E-brake applied.

If the A/T light begins to blink, after placing in P, then the fluid has gone over the check temperature. Shut off the truck, try again in 2 hours.

Seems as though many of us with '12+ don't get the 2nd A/T light when placing it in park. I never have....and I've done 5 successful DAFs over the last 3 years or so

My '06 didn't give the 2nd A/T light when placed into P. Really, had me wondering if the system was ON or functioning. So, I just decided to sit in the Driver's seat and wait.....listened to the radio.....waited....after about 15 minutes the A/T light started to flicker...... A minute or 2 later, the A/T light went ON solid. Time to check fluid level.

And while it's likely been mentioned before in this 84 page thread, as soon as you get into temp check mode - remove the jumper wire if that's your approach.
Leaving it in can cause squirrely FI behavior as per one smart tech on the t4r.org forum.

Now that's something I've never done. Obviously it will stay in check mode with it out? Never had an issue with it.....and the 1st I've heard of it

Yes - it stays in temp check mode when you pull the jumper as long as you have actually entered temp check mode B4 pulling the jumper.

A long-time Toyota tech over on t4r.org who goes by BlackWorksInc mentioned this in a tranny fluid tread on the 5th Gen 4R forum. 2nd Gen Tacoma's and 5th Gen 4Rs use same transmission - A750E(2WD) or A750F(4WD).

Thanks for the reply. I decided to try it even though the second light didnt come on. I waited 20 minutes and then the light came on. I waited some more and then it started blinking, indicating it had exceeded checking temperature. It looks like it is working like it should, and I will go ahead with the DAF.

If you ever do it on a really cold day....it can take awhile. I waited 45 minutes once because I decided that a 15° day would be a lovely time to do a tranny DAF.

Do you still have to go through the complete temp check sequence if you are just topping off? I just had one of my trans cooler hose clamps go and I lost probably 1/2 qt. I need to top it off.

    Yes sir .
Even if you are simply checking the fluid level , you are supposed to follow the procedure .

Probably a dumb question but when you jump slots 4 and 13 on the OBD you don’t leave them in there correct? Just contact the wire into both and then remove?

I left the jumper installed between 4 and 13 for the entire procedure until I shut off the engine.

My "jumper" was a custom formed metal paper clip.

I'll bet they do. Look at Valvoline MaxLife. Turn the bottle over and read the label on the back. You will see its compatible with WS.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I've done this a couple times on my '14 and the light will come on and stay on when it is warm enough. You have to wait.

I have left the jumper in during the whole procedure but it does make the engine run for shit. Makes me work faster because I don't like hearing it run like that.

So its not just me!! I did this last week to practice temp check mode before I actually do a drain/fill. Noticed it definitely sounded off when I started the truck. Was worried I got the wrong pins and jacked something up haha
