I'd like to build a trailer using a Tacoma truck bed from a crashed truck. Ideally the trailer will match my 2021 truck so want a 3rd gen. Does anyone know the best way to find trucks that would work for this project? I want to get the truck as cheaply as possibly as half of it would need to be disposed of or sold off anyway. Thanks for any input

    Pic for attention, not mine.

car-part.com is a search of networked salvage yards. I have used them for individual parts, but whole sections might be possible?

Scouring the local autowreckers would be a good start. Or looking in the classifieds for someone who has to unfortunately do the Part out mod.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I haven't had any luck trying local salvage yards yet but I'll try over the hill in Sacramento. I know this trailer build for newer trucks isn't so common but can someone who has done this mod pipe in with some advice on the build as well?

Yeah seems like a nice option for an off road capable trailer with nice clearance, compatible with any bed rack mounting system (or cap) that would work with my truck and potentially fairly cheap depending on how badly the truck was crashed.

are you a fabricator? could probably buy the bed and bedsides/tailgate/tail lights for a couple thousand. then you will likely have to weld up a frame, get axles (i would probably do these https://timbren.com/c-1389196-products-axle-less-trailer-suspension.html) and wire it all up. probably not going to be the "cheap" deal you may have had in mind, but unique and skookum nonetheless.

It is a redneck thing in rural areas. The frame rails forward of the bed are bent toward each other and a receiver is bolted / welded on. Pretty simple except that you're yanking around a heavy-ass axle on stiff springs.

This would probably be an expensive undertaking in this market.

Ever thought of finding a Military m101 or m1101 cargo trailer . They're a high clearance design with pintle hitches which make them perfect for off road use

My only question: what oil will you use in the rear diff on the trailer?

Scab it onto an existing or semi-built trailer.
    Maybe tray/flatbed installers have take-offs.

There was a alarm company that would remove the beds to put a utility bed on them. Might not help to make a trailer because you would probably want the frame and axles.
