I scratched my truck the other day right by the tail gate. In some spots metal is showing and others just has a cut that is white. See picture. Would a touch up paint pen work? Not worries about it being perfect, just don't want rust or have those white scratches that stand out. Heres a pic as well

Get touch up paint from your Toyota dealership. It will protect your truck from rusting AND your car will look good.

Toyota color matches by your VIN# so it will be exact. Best $18 you can spend. It will have a brush AND pen tip. This looks like a job for a brush. If scratch is deep, you should apply a thin layer, let it dry, then apply another layer, etc... Until it fills the scratch.

EDIT: is this scratch on a non-red painted area? My instructions work well for a painted area with VIN# matched paint.

I guess I saw Barcelona in your signature block and thought red...my bad. Makes sense now. Same approach though.

Paint pen will prevent rust but no fixing it to look good.

I had a couple of scratches like that on my fender flares.Got some touch up paint from Toyota, and used it,doesn't look good at all.I've been told you can never match the factory finish.Touch up paint goes on too light or too dark and is raised up on factory paint.Since flares are plastic,I should have left the scratches.

The paint does match, the issue is most colors are clearcoat colors and pain't pens don't contain clear coat. So it won't look like the original finish. Most of the time touch up requires multiple coats and wet sanding. Can be done to near perfection but usually requires time and expertise.

Do you have a picture of the touch up job?
