The problem with buying a new release is the dealers holds the cards, there will be a wait for the first few months, so you need to be patient.

Get it appraised at more than one dealer, don't agree to anything.

I got a bunk trade in at my own workplace so I ended up selling privately (with a lien) you just need to be transparent with the sale. I simply bring in the buyer to the place of loan and make their money go directly to the bank, then the residual is mailed to you later.

I anticipate that the 4th gen will initially be priced at msrp+, so getting the most for your existing vehicle will be paramount.

Clean up your vehicle before you go selling it or getting an offer from a dealer. I no longer sell my vehicles to individuals because of the hassle (too many tire kickers who cannot obtain funding, takes too much time, etc). I shop my vehicle at local dealers and see who gives me the best price.

You will probably need to wait for the 2025 model if you are seeking a discount. New model will be a hot seller for at least a year

You'll probably get better value in the private sale market if you can find someone to pay that much.

if you're going to sell it...

leave it stock, don't even add OEM stuff unless you think it adds value,
do all your maintenance on time and keep all the records, update the app on Toyota
get multiple appraisals as others have said; but Toyota may want your truck if it is rare at all depending on the current conditions because they can uniquely offer it as a CPO.

I’d sell it now for max $, but a beater - put it all down on the new one. The only negotiation you have to make is the new truck

This. You're throwing money down the drain if you're trading in. And as far as prep - I wouldn't do jack. Dealers don't go over trade ins with a fine tooth comb. They look big picture on the specs, what the vehicles theoretical value would be, do a quick walkaround to check condition and that's about it. Other than confirming it's a clean record (carfax) they aren't going to scrutinize your service history, take a paint gauge out to make sure it's never been repaired or do anything like that. They move quick and dirty.

Sorry... but the dealer holds all the cards and they make sure you have none. And the way they feel about, behind closed doors... is that anything they "give you" for your trade-in is a gift. They make as much money on trades as they do selling something at full list price plus dealer add-ons.

Find out what you truck is worth and advertise it yourself. Handle all transactions through a bank and at the bank. I guarantee you will be money ahead. And not lunch money...

If trading in, just keep getting various quotes on yours and the new.
Also look online at the car buying sites, they may very well pay more and be less hassle.

And take advantage of any dealers with offers where they say they'll give you the highest trade-in or we will pay you $$$

CARVANA. I had 2017 ZR2 , 45 k. Toyota offered 25 k which with tax credit on trade in brings it to about 27. Carvana gave me 30 k no questions asked and believe there were a couple issues , albeit small ones. I took that 30 k check and ran to the bank. As long as they in business, not sure how long , I’d always sell to them

Toyota already sells them in Mexico 3gs might not be as popular down there as 1st gens are. I have no idea if Toyota ever sold new 1st gens in Mexico.

Used 3rd gens in 2025 could be the deal of a lifetime.

Whatever you do shop at more than one dealership. See who will give you the most for your truck and do the best on theirs. Your only interested in the out door figure and trade value. One dealership may show you more for your truck but add all kinds of fees above MSRP. It's all about the out the door figure! Make them beat each other and never take the first offer. Good luck whenever you choose to trade.
