I've never looked into amateur racing, but I remember reading a build thread for someone getting into racing. Chances are you'll need a cab cage as well. Depending on how your bed cage is built and with what material, it may need to be re-built to meet the requirements. Just as a heads up if you weren't already aware. Good luck! Also in socal, and this would be fun to watch.

Maybe these socal guys have some input?

Can't help you with socal, but desert racing in Texas is growing in popularity

Best way is to get with a team pit crew and get in on the ground floor doing the grunt work to see what goes on behind the scenes. Racing isn't just jumping into a fully built truck all because you have the money. I have seen that first hand and it didn't turn out pretty in the long run. While your truck is built to prerun, there is so much more to get it to pass tech inspection.

Prepare for some serious deep pockets to build your truck up for racing, whether pro or amateur. Get some seat time as a passenger/navigator to understand every element of racing. You can't be a race driver without knowing what your pit and chase teams are doing on the back end.
