One thig that really annoys me is the auto-dimmer on the rearview in my 2012. I miss the old-fashioned flipper, giving me control when I wanted it!

Does anyone know of a hack that will allow me to darken my rearview at will? Seems pretty ridiculous you can't control this whenever you want.

    Thanks for any input, here.

Wow, auto-dimming side mirrors? That is actually pretty cool :)

So, I found the "low-tech" answer (go figure, the search function here actually works:eek:). Looks like if I tape over the front sensor on the rearview, then it will be dim all the time, because the rear sensor will always see more light. So then the on/off button will control dimming, just like I like it.

    I love these forums... :D

yeah it is nice! the side and rear view all auto dim.

wish my truck did. at least rear view. tint will help a little on side.

and yeah it works if it is on here you can find it. some stuff like tire size is kinda hard because their are sooo many threads about it so finding what you want can be hard and take time.

My old VW had an auto dimming rear view. They work really well actually. If that is a new option for 2012 it may be a while before someone figures it out. Start pulling fuses???

No, no- I want it to work, but I want it to obey (haha), and also work consistantly. IOW, I would like to simply be able to turn it on and off at will, without the on-again, off-again behavior it exhibits at night. And, have you ever been driving west in the morning, with the sun in your rearview? The auto-dimmer will not work in this situation... and it's iffy whether it'll work with Brer Bro's HID's in your face at night, either. As much as I like the elecronic dimmer, I miss the simplicity of a manual rearview... on when you want it, off when you want it, with no BS. Dig?

I'm going to try the electrical tape "mod", and see how it works. Sounds like the result will be Dim with Power On, Clear with Power Off.
