How to handle TSB?

    What's the best, quickest, and easiest way to get your TSB done? Basically, get the damn problem fixed that Toyota was already deemed a problem. It seems to me that TSBs are extremely important, but the service department doesn't think the same way, or at least mine doesn't. Well, maybe my old one.

    Gotta love the dealerships! I just called the one that I bought my truck at, and spoke w/ some person in service. (It's Christmas so I just changed "person" from another word.) I asked what TSBs are currently on my truck, she said "anghhh, I don't know why you people think TSBs work like this. I'm not going to look up every little TSB for your truck. It doesn't work like that. You bring your truck in w/ a problem, and then we look it up from there." I said that I would like to be proactive before a simple fix could avoid a huge problem. She said, "well, it doesn't work like that and you'll have to bring it in with your problem. Do you want to schedule an appointment?"

    WTF - Am I in the wrong, or did I handle TSBs incorrectly? I would like to get everything done at once so I'm not wasting my time going back and forth. I hate wasting time, just fix the damn problem that you already know is a problem.

    Why would dealerships be so guarded about providing customers with information that could lead them to money and better running vehicles? I'm sure Toyota reimburses them for parts/labor.

    Sorry for any venting, I’m just frustrated with my dealership and how they are handling this situation!

    Is there a particular TSB you are after or just to see what you can get done?

    For my suspension I had to schedule an appointment to have it "inspected". Basically I told them it felt unsafe at highway speeds with a load in it, I noticed the service advidsor noted I mentioned unsafe and that was that.

    Little bit of both. There's a transmission TSB,
    [FONT=&quot]0373-09, that could really help my truck shift better. Before reading TW about others having the same issue, I thought it was "normal" on how Tacoma's trannys shifted. But, really it's just a problem with the 2009+ trucks.

    Sorry in advance - Why should I wasted my time looking this shit up when the freaking dealership that I spent 30k on a truck at knows about and is just holding out for some reason. I'm really bitter about this.

    I just started this thread because it seems from me reading different threads that TW-ers are having problems in general getting these TSBs done. Seems to me that it's like pulling teeth.

    It really seems like different dealerships can be that way. I think if you went in with a general idea of what you want them to look at for instance the suspension and the tranny it would be best. Will they let you schedule an appointment for these to be inspected? It took them an hour for mine to be checked just for the suspension. I would agree that if the dealers know there is a potential fix to a known issue they should be more forthcoming with the info. Oh and I love that the lady at the dealership refers to us as "you people" :laugh: someone should remind her that we are the ones that keep her ass gainfully employed. Either way man good luck and let us know how it goes, oh and is there maybe another dealership in the area you could try?

    Seems like there has to be an existing problem. For my rear springs I told them it rode like shit w/ my quad in the back. I tried to get the tailgate TSB done but they said it had to be bent first. There was no preventative TSB. Good luck.

    every thread i have read has gone one way or the other. guy 1 calls dealership and they some on down and we will fix it and guy 2 ( such as yourself) gets the old "eff off" from the dealership. i know it sucks cause i just paid 30k for my truck too and have a TSB that needs to be looked at. my best suggestion is call toyota customer care and get a case # for your problems. id tell them specifically whats wrong with the truck like tranny shifts hard or ass end is dragging and bottoming out with small loads. Dont try to go fishing hoping to catch a break on some work. bring specific problems to the table. good luck and let us know how you make out. im going through the same problem on my 09 4x4. i only have 3 leafs when it calls for 4.

    Yeah, probably are right. I guess TSB are not really recalls, but I think of them like that.

    First of all let me say that I have had very good luck with the dealership that I work with. But here's how I would play it.

    I find it better to stop in rather thatn call, but anyhow.

    Repeat verbatum the information from the TSB, that you are looking at: for instance the transmission TSB says harsh shift below 20 mph.

    I usually then ask if they have had anyone else come in with this problem.

    Now this can go one of two ways: Either they say sure have and there is actually a service bulletin detailing this exact problem we would be happy to fix it Mr valued customer when would you like to bring in your truck?

    Or as in A-Hole dealer:

    I have no idea what you are talking about you moron...

    At which time I try and produce said TSB and say well this might help you out say that you got it online or something.

    If that doesn't work ask them for the name of their area Toyota service representative and that you would like to give that person a call. This is a person who works for Toyota and is responsible for multiple dealerships service departments.

    I feel your pain - it's like hey Toyota (the people who produced the truck) have identified a problem and I would like to have it fixed.

    I went down to get the 09 tranny TSB done yesterday, and if I hadn't had had the TSB in my hand, it wouldn't have gotten done. They tried to tell me there wasn't such a thing, and I whipped it out and he was like "where'd you get that from." LOL, thank you TW!

    very true " they are not recalls". but if you plant that seed in the heads of people at toyota that safety is involved u will probably get further. besides its cheaper for them to oil the squeaky wheels then have a full blown recall. THEN EVERYBODY WILL SHOW UP!!!!!! good luck again. let us know how u make out.

    no. People have said that they have come out with a TSB for the 09s on the leaf spring issue, but have failed to produce a copy of it. Some people have said that if your spring parts number(s) match the numbers on the 08 TSB, they will usually do it for you. I know that if I ever go for the TSB, I sure will not be going to my local one where I bought it at.

    I took mine into the Dealership the other day and the service rep seemed happy to help me out, in fact said he hopes the warranty will pick it up and it should. I didn't say that it was unsafe at highway speeds with a load, but I do notice a ridiculous amount of squeaking. Seems way worse when it's hot out which it wasn't when the claims person came. On top of that, they said they took it for a ride and noticed no harsh rides qualties in the rear end. Now I am like the rest of you, if there's a call for a fix, fix it. I didn't drop all this coin for a vehicle AND a warranty for it to not be deemed good enough. I even called the warranty complany (not through toyota, bought it from a used lot in VA) and said that the test ride proved nothing wrong. Basically I'd just like it fixed, money is tight and getting tighter with a growing fam and I would like this to be resolved before it's a bigger issue that I really wouldn't be able to afford. Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated. I think I'll take it to another dealership and try the safety pitch, but how much of it is really a pitch when it's your daily driver and you've got 3 kids to haul around?
