Nice write up. I am looking for a wiring diagram for a 2013 Tacoma, where did you find your diagram I am going to install a remote starter. I found on two different sites for the second starter wire one site shows -, and the other site shows the second starter shows + on the bulldog Security Diagrams. Bulldog told me it was the same as 2012 wiring. But it bothers me that the 2 site shows different -. Check it out..

Bulldogs diagram was wrong. At least for the 2010. I found corrections on The12Volt but it was too late. Really majorly screwed my project.

Ducky, thanks for your contributions to this thread.
Im installing a 5704 in my 06 DCLB.
The diagram you posted up in your edit that says its the proper way, that is a 1N4005 diode between 85 and 86 on the relay right?
And would that diagram work for wiring up my 2006 or is it 10+ only?

from this thread i understand in addition to the alarm, I will need:
    A 40A relay
    Four 1N4005 diodes
A 20A fuse holder and fuse

    is that right?

Anyone see what "Directed" did? You warranty is void now if an authorized installer didn't do the install.

I still bought mine on Amazon because its only $180 instead of $600 + the damn installation.

For your truck (2013) I would go with the diagram from modifiedlife.com. RubberDucky followed the one from Bulldog and it messed up his truck. He has since found the correct diagram. It bothers me too that one site says + and another says -. This is the sort of thing that needs to be 100% right. Good luck with your install.

Yeah, if anyone installs one of these one their own Directed (i.e. Viper's parent company), there is no warranty. As far as I know, its the same with all of Directed's products. I'll add this to the first post to warn anyone that wants to keep the warranty in tact. Thanks for the input.

I was pissed when they changed policy on this. Happened recently due to some of the EBAY and AMAZON retailers.

Anybody know the proper way to wire in the DEI Back up battery?
I also have the audio sensor add on to wire in.

Piezo siren should be easy, just wire up with the main siren right?

Ditch the backup battery. Do a multiple CAR battery install. It will confuse the shit out of any would be theives.

I never could find a schematic of any kind when I was looking. But that would be great if someone else on TW has one. The best I could find was the install guide from Directed which lists the alarm's wires and what wire they should connect to in the vehicle. I attached Directed's guide to this thread. In case you missed it, its at the bottom of the first post and is titled "Viper_5704_Installation_Guide.pdf." It will work for your Python 574.

I started on this project today, initially it seems way overwhelming.
However, if you stick with it and proceed in an orderly fashion you'll gain confidence.

I spent about 8 hours today and finished all the wiring. I probably still have 3-4 hours left for tomorrow, just hooking up the brain and bypass, programming, etc.

For the hood pin I drilled a hole on the bar that the driver headlight attaches to, as this provided a solid contact area for the plastic top of the hood pin. None of the existing holes would work well.
For the exterior siren I drilled 2 holes in the top of the wheel well and used lock nuts on the bottom side.

Im working with Riverdog to clarify the write-up and work through any diagram errors.
Anyone who has been following the thread should notice quite a few changes coming.
Ill also have supplemental pictures to put up of the pre-wiring (relays, etc), unfortunately nothing of the in car wiring as that would have been a major hassle.

So far I only have had 3 solder burns, one on my head from squirming around under the dash with the iron lol. I haven't gotten electrocuted yet so this project is going great! :D

    Ill update tomorrow.

    VICTORY! WOOOHOOO!!!!

What a project! I finished it up and everything works GREAT.
Nothing quite like hearing your exhaust purr from outside for the first time as it starts :p

Ive pointed out a few issues to Collin and he will be updating the write up.
I promise pictures in a few days, my neck and back are so sore from being under that dash right lol.

I am looking into getting the 5704. Is there any options I need to get other than the stock unit. My wife has a viper that when running and parked. U can press remote start and it will beep and u can turn key off get out lock it while truck stays running. Is that an option type thing or is it stock. Looking to get ideas and/or reviews

Well if your wife has a viper I assume that ours does too.
Its likely a programmable option, theres LOTS of them lol.

For add ons I got a window break sensor and backup battery.
I think that should cover me pretty well including the stock option Shock Sensor.

I'm fairly certain that is an option on the 5704. I think I remember reading something like that when I was programming mine after I installed it. You can download the installation guide for the 5704 from the first post in this thread. In that guide, it lists how to program all the different options. If you have a bitwriter and know how to use it, there are even more things you can do.

    Hey Glocker,
I went to get my mail and for shits an giggles pressed the remote start button once it was in park. I removed the key and it kept running!
Super nice because I am then able to get my mailbox open without turning the truck off and on.
So no programming is needed! :)
