How to keep Center Caps on the wheels?

My son had a center cap yellowing so I bought him the following for Christmas. He put one of them on last night and I double checked it before he left. He drove 10 miles or so and lost it.

So is there a trick to keeping them on?

I have a set of those in Black if you are looking to replace/change the look a little.... no recommendation to your question, though. sorry.

 

Use some silicon , that's what I used on my fj Trd caps ( fit a Lil loose on my sport wheels but it did the trick )

 

$45 for 4 center caps? Holy moly.

Like the poster above said, I heard that a little dab of silicone works well for center caps.

and btw - I don't want to come off as a jackass, so please don't take this as negative ribbing... but you're 40 and have a son of driving age?

Well a combination of shitty math on my part + the fact I'm 38 and have a 5 year old makes it a bit of a shocker

 

LOL! Math in public is rarely a good thing.

My wife and I are both 44 and we have a 14 year old, so I see where you're coming from. My folks, OTOH, are only about 20 years older than I am, so they were about 36 when I started driving...

 

What about a little masking tape applied to the tabs that snap into the wheel tighter?

 

Yes, I am 40 years old and I have 2 sons. One is 16 and one is 15. I am glad I had kids early. They are both very good kids. I was young enough to keep up with them and be interested in some of the same things as them.

Btw, do you think $45.00 is too high or too low for 4 center caps?

 

By no means was I questioning your decision or how your kids were/are reared... I think it's awesome. As you can see above, my math was off - to say the least.

I think $45 for 4 center caps is very high. But then again, it's par for the course with OEM plastic.

 

maybe try bending the little tabs on the hub caps to its a tighter fit

 

Btw, if anyone reads this post in the future, these caps are a poor fit. The eBay seller promptly refund the money.

The clips aren't the same as OEM and the logo is painted on top of the hub instead of being embossed in the hub.

So now I am on the hunt for OEM center caps.

 

I went through this weird phase where people kept on stealing my caps back when I had my stock setup... so in the end, after replacing a couple I just decided to go without them. I guess you can't have nice things, for one reason or another.

 

Ductape is always the answer to fixing stuff!!
