I took my gato camping with me. He was fresh off the bottle and I didn't want to leave him.
Well, it got pretty hot on the drive up, so I got his head all wet and set him up in front of the floor vent with AC on.
    He liked that.
OTOH, he does not like even mild wheeling.
    We arrived safe and sound.

No kidding... Quite a lot of judgment and little critical thinking in this thread.

Do we even know what kind of temp range or what part of the country the OP is talking about? If it's not too hot to play golf, then it's probably not too hot to keep the canopy a safe temp. The windows on mine are tinted so dark that it really isn't that hard. Battery powered fans will pretty much do the trick, unless you're talking about some real extreme temps, obviously there is a limit. You can also freeze a block of ice in their water bowl, and/or freeze a jug of water that they can lay next to. You could also take a break or two from your golf game and check on your dog, but that almost seems too obvious?

The only time my dogs ever ride in the cab is when we're duck hunting and temps are sub 0°. That concerns me far more than 90° with a fan in their face and access to ice cold water. It really isn't subjective at all, just figure out your system and test it out in your driveway. It will either get too hot back there or it won't, despite what the do-gooders say. Crawl back there with your dog, he will start panting if it's too hot. Just don't be an idiot about it. I swear 100% of those stories about a dog dying in a hot car is because the owner was a completely oblivious moron. If you are even marginally aware that it's hot and take some precautions then you should be able to get it done safely. Unless you live in like Phoenix or somewhere, but I don't think the OP has told us that yet?

When it’s too damn hot at home we go up on the forest service roads. Got a couple battery operated fans for sleeping in the truck

My pup prefers Motel 6 or the Holiday Inn. As much as she would like to come to work with me I keep her home on the hot days.
