For all of you electrical geniuses... I am looking to change my garage opener mod to use an illuminated momentary switch. I would like to have the switch light up when the head-lights are on (in other words when it's dark outside). As the switch is only connected directly to the opener, is it possible to illuminate using a connection from the truck? If so...how?

and right now, it only illuminates when pressing the button? so i'm guessing there are 3 posts on the back:

    power in
    power out
    bulb ground

    yes?

A picture would help tremendously. But to answer the inquiry, you would need a 12v hot wire from the headlamp wiring or relay, tie directly to the wiring.

Your garage door probably uses a different voltage to the lights. You would need to figure out that voltage, tie into a lighting circuit in parallel and drop the voltage with a resistor.

Yea after some searching i dont think a three pole switch can be illuminated all the time because you cant switch power and ground.

Check out www.otrattw.com for switches. they can do custom switches too (see THIS PAGE for an example garage door switch).

You'll need a momentary on/off with independent LED. Contact the guys at OTRATTW for details -- they can set ya up!
