Both mirrors not working for years. Never repaired it. Just replaced passenger side for a new one due to damage. So I thought let's see if that one works now. No go on both mirrors.
Checked the fuse ACC. It seems OK and all other functions connected to that fuse work fine.

I measure 12v at 8 (GR) at O1 (outer mirror switch). How do I check if the switch works?

Get other switch and hook the wires up to it and see if it works.. if so, then that switch you took it off is faulty. I had that problem for my power window in my old car... A friend of mine replaced the switch and it successful.

Thanks Taz. I am located in the caribbean on Curacao. Unfortunately we do not have spare switches laying around. Needs to be ordered. Takes awhile. I also had some gremlins in my cabling relating to other issues. So I'd rather test it before replacing it.

    Take the faulty switch out.

If you have extra battery then place the battery near you by the door and get wires from battery to faulty switch and see if works. Only way to test it. If it works, then you have short in wires somewhere.

Thanks Taz. But I do have 12V at 8 (GR) and ground at 7 (W-B) at O1 (outer mirror switch). I assume there would be way of measuring either continuity or voltage on the outgoing wires in certain switch positions?

Pretty easy to test, just follow the diagram.

We have Power coming in on Pin 8 (Grey), Power leg of the switch highlighted in Red.
We have Ground coming in on Pin 7 (White/Black), Ground leg highlighted in Blue.

    upload_2025-1-26_8-46-16.png

Then you look at where the switch contacts would be in each position, for example if we click the mirror selection switch to Select the Left mirror and then press Up on the control switch the contacts and power flow would look like this. So we should have Power on Pin 4 (Pink/Black) and Ground on Pin 6 (Brown/White).
Just follow the contact positions for each position of the switch to see if it outputs Power and Ground on the correct pins.

Thanks guys. Getting readings but nowhere near 12v. With scale <20V on DC somewhere between 0.2 and 0.8V. Either LH or RH, up/down (3/4) or left /right (2/5).
Not entirely sure but thought that on my first reading I got 2+V.

Backprobe your power (Pin 8 Grey) and Ground (Pin 7 White/Black) and put your meter across those while you acrivate the switch and see if your keeping your power and ground when you activate the switch.

Yes on all positions. It dips down a bit from 11.9 to 11.6 but comes right back up.

So your keeping power and ground but have no outputs on the switch?

Yes. So I have exactly zero volts on the outputs when the switch is on neutral. When I switch to L or R and use the up/down/left/right button
I get somewhere between 0.2 to 0.8 volts on the outputs. Power and ground slight dips from 11.9 to 11.6 on activation but comes right back up during use.

If you on the right pins that would suggest a bad switch.
Wonder how easy it would be to get apart, might just need to clean the contacts.

To verify it's the switch, make a jumper wire and feed 12v power to the pins and see if you get the desired movement in the mirror. Might be better to do with the switch unplugged, to take the switch out of the equation.

Jumper wire for both power and ground, I assume? First have to get a new fuse as I just blew one with my jumper wire jumping power and ground :)

See the pic. Upper contact covered in some sort of grease.

That's pretty normal for sliding contacts to be greased like that but Toyota sometimes uses too much and when it's cold the grease gets too thick as I discovered with my clutch start cancel switch that wouldn't work when the temp fell below about 50F.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/clutch-start-cancel-doesnt-work-in-cold-weather.752554/

I'd clean it off and just give it a light smear of grease then reassemble it and give it a go.

I might add to clean the contacts with a pencil eraser while the grease is cleaned off. They look like there may be some oxidation.

Thanks guys. Got the grease off, sprayed electrical cleaner on it and used the pencil eraser. Some black oxidation came off. Installed it but no go. Had a shipment coming in from the US so ordered a new switch. Let us see when it comes in if that changes things.
