What would be cool is if someone sold a 'template' for us to put on our fenders and the flares to follow when cutting. I'd be much more comfortable doing this mod then...

Looks good. I'd like to a better pic of how you did the front bumper. I think you're the first to do this mod with a stocker on.

Well I am still awaiting a Relentless Fab plate bumper and sliders. I haven't modified the stock bumper at all.

All.On.Black and Relentless Taco are the originators of this mod. I have asked for a how to but understandably they want to keep there trucks and this mod unique. I am going to bet that relentless' looks a lot better. Like I said this is the first time I have ever done anything like this to a vehicle and I am satisfied with my results.

I'm the one that did both mine and Eric's flares. Good job trying to tackle this but if you're going to do fiberglass you should at least have it vacuum formed.

Just a little input... I have installed flares on a couple of peoples trucks (mine included) only using GE black silicone (about a cartridge - cartridge and one half per flare). Holds up to nuclear blasts - Due to a recent mis-hap, my Shrockworks bumper is trying to pull my front flares off but they're not having any of that![IMG]

Dumb question. What happens to the naked edge of metal under the fender flares, where you cut using the dremel tool and scored the paint to keep it from peeling upwards? I'm not at all into doing this myself (I just enjoy these threads), but out of curiosity, what did you do to protect that edge from paint wear and/or rust, while it's hidden under the flare?

And a great job you did! What is vacuum formed fiberglass?

I think that black silicone would be a MUCH better solution. I will try it on the rear fenders when I get around to it.

Well I sanded any part of the metal that is bare and just threw some primer paint down to keep it from rusting.

So this is what the fenders look like close up. I will do more sanding some day but for now they are just fine. I am proud of my work for a beginner. I think the black silicone would be a lot easier. Lots of lessons learned.

Looks good, I wanna do this but with the ARB bumper I'd have to cut it to match and get it repowdercoated!

But good jobs! Especially for a first try!

How am I a dickhead? If he is going to do fiberglass he would have a much smoother finish having it vacuum formed instead of laying it by hand. That would save him a bunch of time, it would look nicer, and be stronger.

or you can do it by hand and learn because im pretty sure not everyone has a buddy with a vacuum to form their fiberglass

Or you can get results like above doing it by hand. Fiberglass is not the easiest to work with and it's a pain to sand/form. To get a nice smooth surface he will have to fill the glass with something else that is more tolerant to sanding. So why do things twice?

    Okay okay knock it off.

Yes the results are not as great as fiberglass vacuumed but it was a learning experience. I am content with the results and will try to get them as smooth as possible later. For now I am going to focus on the rears integrating a hi clearance bumper. If there are any suggestions or good practices you all want to throw at me I am all ears!

You should chop the flares once you're ready to chop the bed. That way you have a nice clean line from the bed to the flares.
