Besides suspension there's nothing mechanically different lol and the money you save can put in way better suspension and tires.

I didn’t want to get my 18 for the same reason. My other car is a 1970 Opel GT. I don’t like nanny features either. Once I actually tried the features on my 18 I loved them. I have PCS set to minimum and it still bugs me a bit. I may turn it off. But BSM, traffic alert, adaptive cruise, and auto brights are actually pretty nice. BSM, brights, and adaptive cruise can all be disabled by their switch. PCS can be turned off in the clusters settings. Departure assist can also be disabled.

I have it on my 18 and I’ve never had it even activate. I figured I would just turn it off if it bothered me, but it doesn’t. It doesn’t apply the brakes on a Tacoma, it just sounds an alert.

It can apply the brakes. Ive had it happen. It doesnt activate pre collision braking until the last possible moment so you might not realize its there unless you have a close call like i did

    This.

All this anti TSS stuff seems like a good ole fashioned case of “hate what you fear, fear what you don’t understand”....I like the TSS stuff on my truck. The ACC is really great in particular.

Yup, me too...some jackwagon cut me off, then grabbed brake...TSS saved my month-old truck from an unfortunate event. Like others have said, you can dial down the sensitivity or turn them off. BSM, cross traffic alert and rear sonar are not part of TSS and have individual switches.

IMO, if you're driving like a normal person, then TSS isn't even a thing...

But I didnt say a “new” Pro, bro. Ive spent the difference between my OR new and a used Pro already just in mods, so it wasnt that bad of a suggestion. Now that I’m a unicorn, I’m going to have to drive like one? Hmmm... :bananadance:

Just be aware that it resets to “on” every time you start your truck. There’s no way to permanently turn it off.

    This.

And for the suggestion that I buy a used 2017:

    1. Used 2017 Tacoma TRD Off-roads with a manual transmission sell for near as much as a brand new one. Maybe $1000 less, at most, and many listings are for MORE $$ than a new truck.
    2. I try to avoid used vehicles because I don’t know how they’ve been maintained or abused.
    3. It’s a lot harder to buy a used vehicle as far as sourcing/locating it, possibly traveling across the country to get it, financing, etc.
For the record, I HAVE driven a 2018 Tacoma manual on several test drives. I’ve also read the owners manual.

This is incorrect, there is a setting in Techstream to change this behavior. PCS Operation State Retention Setting---OFF/ON

    That’s great news.

Do you think a dealer would be willing to make this change through Techstream, or is this the point where I buy a copy off eBay? Would any OBD2 dongle work e.g. Tactrix?

You’re totally right, it does apply the brakes. My salesman told me the Tacoma didn’t do that. Lol. Thanks for clarifying that!

I doubt the Dealer would change this setting for you, But I guess it depends on the Dealer. Techstream can be found online for free. I'm not going to link it but I've seen links posted on Tacoma world before.

Im using a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 and it works Great.

The tacoma cant steer for you to correct lane drift like some of the other TSS cars, maybe he was confused and mixed up the two?
