I bought my '22 from a no-markup dealer. Did it all over the phone. Of course they didn't have any on the lot so I got to choose from what was "allocated" and coming in. And when I went in to sign the papers, they didn't push any add-ons (the finance guy laid out all the protection packages though). Of course I went back a few days later and bought two armloads of accessories, but that was all my choice.

If you are in or near Colorado, try Mountain States Toyota. This is how they have been selling for years. No mark up. No dealer handling fee. No required add-ons. They have a cult following.

If you can wait until the last week of the year (Christmas - New Years) you can get a great deal.
I was able to get a 2023 TRD Sport 4x4, Lunar Rock -$2900 below MSRP. I also used the Costco auto buying program.

I wasnt going to comment until I saw you just said Ford is at an all time low. You're clearly not an economist or stock trader. So Just... stop.

Yea, maybe in some vehicle markets. Like low end that paid double at 20%. But not in the mid-high end market. I'm in a Porsche and I constantly see friends paying any mark-up, any cost, etc. I havent seen one get pulled off their driveways yet. Some strange times we live in.

I think ordering and maybe doing research ahead of time of what dealerships aren't marking up orders. I had success with this when ordering a Telluride a couple years ago - I was able to order from a dealer in Oklahoma (I was in CT) for no mark up and they would ship for a reasonable price. Since dealers around me had the Telluride marked up over $10k - paying $800 in shipping was a steal!

Yes it is...The High end market is killing it big time with no end insight...the middleclass and poor are the ones getting repoed or taking out 8-10 year loans to pay over MSRP...jmho...I really hate telling other people how to spend "their" money....

All auto stocks are tanking? I just looked and Toyota is actually a couple percentage points better than 5 years ago. Ups and downs in between but no where near tanking.

I agree 100% with not paying any mark-up to the dealer. That is just pure profit to them. If you are not willing to pay MSRP on a fast moving vehicle like the Tacoma then look elsewhere. Especially with the 2024 being a redesign. I was just at my local dealer two days ago for my 10K service. Not one new Tacoma or Tundra on the lot. The only thing new were two mini vans that were already sold. The buying process has changed and in demand vehicles are going to all be pre-order.

My two cents, if you already bought a Toyota in the past, and the dealership / salesperson was reasonable then reach out to them first to see what they can do. They might help out a repeat customer.

Also, this video to add to the rest of the conversation thread - more people doing $1000+/month car loans. More recent stories show it's gone up to 20% of buyers doing this.

Up in Canada, dealers are just automatically adding a bunch of accessories to the vehicles they have in stock bumping the prices $2K to $6K depending on model and # of accessories.

I think I’d you plan ahead and aren’t desperate to buy now, it goes a long way. Good dealers will be transparent and partner with you to get you a vehicle, they earn trust by delivering. We have a few LA/OC dealers that I know of that don’t do markup and if you can plan ahead, you give them a chance to perform for you. I got a good deal from the dealer I bought my Tacoma, but if I need to buy again in the future, they won’t be my first call because they played games.

TM stock is down $73 from a little less than 18 months ago.

Might as well get rid of dealerships.

Actually not a bad idea. Just need service centers. Sure would nice to order exactly what you want online directly from the factory and have it delivered to your door. Toyota’s allocation process is kinda bs.

Tesla and Rivian are trying hard to do this. Those pesky dealer lobbyists keep getting in the way.

The past six vehicles I’ve purchased were done via phone. At this point I would be happy to order from Toyota.com and skip the middlemen.

These days don’t even see the point of having salespeople.

"The Homework Guy" website and YouTube channel contain a lot of good car buying information. The website even has a downloadable template for emailing dealerships and requesting an out the door cost.

That template is a fucking joke. 90% of salespeople will just ignore someone who does that crap.
