    Hello,

I was thinking of selling my Tacoma due to the current market and buying a new one in a year or two. I'm not sure what a fair value would be.

It's a 2011, TRD-OR Dbl cab,, v6 4wd with 200k. New frame last year, new leaf springs, water pump, full skid plates and sliders. Pretty normal condition and well maintained.

How can one determine a price given current conditions?

Good luck! For one thing I wouldn't bet on things getting better in a year or 2. Call me a pessimist, but I'm thinking we're in for some inflation for a while.

The best advice I have if you really want to sell is to look at KBB to check prices in your zip code. Another method that I find pretty accurate is to actually take the truck to your bank and ask them how much they would loan someone with a 700+ credit score to buy your truck. Add 15%-20% to that. That would mean someone with 15-20% down payment would qualify for a loan for the rest.

Depending on how fast you want to sell you could negotiate somewhere above loan value. You might be willing to sell at only 5%-10% over loan value, but I'd say right at the banks stated loan value should be bottom dollar.

Solid advice, but I'd definitely ask more than usual being you got the reframe. I know mine also included metal brake lines, leafs, control arms so those are other things not needed for a long time on your vessel

When your asking higher than normal, patients and no pressure to sell is the key. If it’s in good shape it will sell.

You may break break even. The supply shortage isn’t gonna be better for awhile. More than two years. Plus the world of buying cars will never be the same. The dealers have learned that going forward they can and will keep inventory on the low side thus keeping pricing high. That being said drive it into the ground. It’s good for another 200k easy.

Thanks everyone, I will need to check a few of those out. I'm not in a rush to sell it and it is no longer a primary vehicle so if sold, I could wait a year or two before purchasing. If I keep it, I have no doubt it will last another ten years.

FWIW, I've had a 2nd gen for sale for a month now and no one has even come to look at it even priced below current market. I thought with the current market that it would sell quickly. Lots of messages with lowball offers though.

That's just it though, in current market people are realizing it's actually cheaper to buy new in most cases. Around here tacos a year or two old are going for msrp of new or higher . Sure to buy new you have to order and wait six months but I think more people aRe willing to do that. Also there dealers around here NOT marking up above msrp

There's definitely some truth to that. Mine's priced under $10k though so I would think that's a big enough gap to where I'm not competing with potential new truck customers.

Odd. You should be able to pull a premium price easily.

I would have thought so, truck is in good shape. I feel like the first person who actually comes to see it will buy it. Here's where I've had it listed w/experiences:

Autotrader - 5-6 scammers, trying to get me to a pay for a history report before they come look (common scam). Zero legit interested people. Complete waste of $50.

Ebay - listed for a week at a time, 10-15 watchers each time, some questions, one lowball offer (30% below asking). No buyers. Though I wouldn't buy a vehicle sight unseen either, but it seems to work for some.

Craigslist - one legit interested buyer, but wouldn't meet my rock bottom price.

Facebook Marketplace - lots of traffic and messages, maybe 25 or so. Almost all have offered at least $1500-2000 below my asking price. Two people agreed with me on a price, said they were on their way, then cancelled without showing up.

I traded in my paid off 2010 Tundra for a 2015 Tacoma sport with 59k miles for $33,700 Mint with paperwork. After the trade in I ended actually paying around 20k.

But I'm also seeing 2nd gens with over 200k go for $12k to $18k here in Iowa. Aslong as the 4wd works and the frame isn't rotted. I think it just depends on your region.

Yep, they're listed on dealer websites for about $12k here in southern WA with that many miles (mine's got 208k). I started at $12k and have it listed for $10k now hoping to get $9500. 2WD PreRunner Off Road.

I know whenever I’m shopping, I’ll look at one like yours as a stale listing. Thinking others have looked and found something wrong with it. You might try, when you repost, use different pictures, different wording. It might get you some action.
