I was at Batteries Plus Bulbs a couple months ago and the guy there said they cut laser keys. I think it wasnt that much also, but don’t remember how much. Try give them a call if you have one near you.

It worked out fine with no issues. I had an uncut one also that caused the release button to stick out as well but the ones I ordered from car-keys-online.com did not cause the button to stick out since they were cut. The only thing i had to do was insert the key into the lock a few times for it to work smoothly after that it worked perfect and looks just like the oem. They were fairly inexpensive also and I received them in a few days which was nice because they are based in the UK. It cost about $23 cut to code. They also do cut by photo but I did not try that.

I was thinking of picking this one up. For the price of the cord they include Techstream too. Also no mention of needing to connect to your computer via teamviewer or disabling your antivirus.

I mean I know using a cracked version of a program and downloading that isn’t exactly on the up and up but still. I’m not letting someone else remote into my PC.

A couple of other things to add; the key in the fob is also to unlock/lock the tailgate! And on my truck, when I bought it, there was actually a tag attached to the gear shift, that told what to do if the battery in the fob dies, which is as others have said, use the key to get in the door, and then hold the fob up to the push start button, with the toyota logo facing the button. this will allow the truck to start and get you back home until you can get a new battery for your fob.

Quick question. Does anyone know if a used fob from another truck be programmed to my truck? A local guy is selling his used one and I don't need the metal key itself, just the fob since my old one got washed.

On you, but if it's a working remote, I don't see why not. You can program up to 5 remotes to work with your truck. As long as the fob is the same as yours (Freq and ID). If it's the same Gen you should be good to go. Verify these numbers are the same on the one you
intent to buy. A new one with an uncut key costs about $100 just fyi.

Cool mine looks just like the picture you provided. Mine says 4/10 instead of 3/10 though. Thanks for the tip.

OK so I finally got my unlocked $90 ebay key used with the techstream software/cable to work with my truck. During my adventure I also received a used key fob from my neighbor but even though I unpaired it from his truck, it could not be setup with my truck being it was still locked to his truck. Turns out you need to have someone unlock a used key first. Now eBay has unlock services available for $15 for a used key but I had already bought my $90 unlocked key. I'm going to keep this extra key in case I need it later to be unlocked.
Thanks to OP for starting this thread and helping out with the information.

I don't think used 3rd Gen key fob's need unlocking. Did you try pairing it to your truck? Was there an error?

Yep. I tried pairing it to my truck after unpairing from the truck it was from. It throws an error on techstream saying the fob is programmed to another vehicle. For fun I also took my old semi-broken fob from my truck and tried to program to my friends truck and same error popped up. Did some more research online and found out that the fob needs to be unlocked first if its used.

But like I said I received my used unlocked fob from ebay and this paired right up. I looked into possibly purchasing the device that can unlock codes but those cost like 2 grand. So if I do want to used the used fib the better option would be to get the ebay guys to unlock it for me in order for me to use techstream to pair it with my truck.

I'm super new to the truck world. I have so many questions, I came across this thread because I just purchased a new smart fob from eBay. My question for this post is in the video the guy said the software only works on Windows XP. given its 2020 now and windows XP is ancient news where do I get the software to use with the newest windows? I'm so glad I don't have to hire a locksmith to program my new spare key.
