How to remote start 2020 and newer TACOMAS with key fob

Doesn't work on my 2020 Sport and I'm not paying for a subscription. Easy enough to get in and start it....for free.

 

Aftermarket "12 volt solutions" brand remote start has been completely trouble free for >4 years and I use it almost daily, it's compatible with 2016-2022 Tacos.

I understand that N2 is another popular brand.

 

I'm sure when there is a need for it, I'll forget I have it. Worked great and I don't have the Toyota App.

 

Works great on my 2021 TRD Sport Premium from day 1 and still is. I never used their connected services subscription. Great if you have signals for you smart phones but up here in the remote areas they are useless as not too many towers and lots of forests.

 

20 Off Road owner here and nope doesn't work on my truck because I didn't opt to get the option package (actually didn't get any option package) with Connected Services enabled. As others have stated before I also think it's useless because it just shuts off when the door is opened.

The N2 Designs aftermarket module is probably better. The Toyota app is pretty garbage too...

 

The only thing with the smartphone app driven functions is they will work until either you cancel the service or the cell phone company discontinues the network standard the vehicle uses. Hyundai/Kia owners are learning that this year with the discontinuing of 3G service on older Hyundais/Kias.

Didn't think it would work with the SR5s with the key/fob integrated unit. For the record, 2021 SR5 X-series failed to start. Probably only works on push button trucks.

 

Well, my 17 doesn't have it and that's why I've never installed an aftermarket one. (shuts off when door is opened). If anyone's aware of an aftermarket one that won't shut the truck off when the door's opened I'm interested.

N2Design here on my 2018 and been perfect for 4 years. I changed out my remote for the old TRD branded AJT remotes and I think the range is better. I rarely use it as mine is in the garage and if I do drive in to work on a rare occasion I can look out the window,point the remote and start it.Thanks Jimmy!!!

 

The opening the door thing people complain about is odd. I mean I get it but with this brutal heat wave, I start my truck from the office and 10 mins later I get into a nice cool truck. Get in and restart. Doesn't bother me much at all. Yep, have to remember to put the temp setting to what you want. You get used to it. N2 Designs for 2 years.

 

I thought I read Toyota was backing off of the subscription required to start the truck with the fob? I get paying to start with a phone. But the fob should work if in range on the trucks that have that feature?

 

Where did you see that? I pay for it because I’m a snob but I’d rather not if the fob would work

 

I'm curious, why is it useless? Every single remote start i've had on my cars, aftermarket or not had to be restarted. Have always been a handy feature, hardly useless? Unless i'm missing something.

 

On the 2020 you need the tech package or something to get it with or or sport. Doesn’t work on my base trd or.

 

Heck -- why not re-start a warmed up or cooled down truck. You have to start it anyway when you get in !! It also deters theft. And I'm sure that is totally the point of it shutting down when the door is opened.

 

There's been a few threads about this and it seems that people were able to start with the FOB when in range. The subscription is for cell phone starting.

Nope. No connected service on my 2021 (free year ended in March) and it works as of this morning

 

This is true. My 2021 still works without the connected service

 

I haven't tried it on my 2020 OR. If the remote start works and then shuts off after the door is open, is there any problem restarting it when you get back in? That would be my luck....it not starting again.
