How to remote start 2020 and newer TACOMAS with key fob

Not true. The subscription is only required for APP access. It works without any subscription from the keyfob.

So you would recommend the N2 remote start?

 

Anyone realize it shuts off and you have to restart it as theft prevention. Otherwise once you remote start it someone breaks in and drives off with the car.

So you would also get the app? I was debating about that too, $189 for an App isn't cheap

 

The app is the main thing I use. Like I said I got 3 free years for what I paid extra for the app. I think the service is $30-40 a year. At least it was the last time I checked. Maybe it's more now with EVERYTHING more expensive.

 

my 2020 also did not work. The blinkers would start flashing as it was going to attempt to start, and nothing. I ended up installing a StartX remote starter and it works as OEM.

Thats not how any factory remote start has ever worked. You always have to have the key to drive away. You think you can break the window, climb in and drive away?

It’s a completely unnecessary step and Toyota has admitted as much.

 

Just got my truck on Sunday and didnt know this was even a feature. Its great with this 100+ degree days.

Dont have the connected services sub. Maybe the PO is still paying for it for me haha.

 

As mentioned by others, it has nothing to do with the subscription but it is a very short range remote start with the fob, and if you’re not standing there watching the lights flash, it’s most likely not going to work. From 30 feet away, my back door to parking spot, I need to attempt it multiple times quite often before it works. If you want a solid remote start, don’t let the salesman tell you this is good, they just want this to keep subscribing to the app, which is quite crappy to say the least. Just put in an aftermarket.

 

Just installed a N2 design on my SR mainly for a keyfob…. Got to love base models. But was super easy to install and follow long a video for programming. The remote starts going to be cool in the winter also.

 

Works on my 2020 Sport YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A SUBSCRIPTION !!! Just follow the steps on this post and do it carefully.

Agree with the range, it only works as far as your factory keyfob does. If you want to carry a second fob , you can get longer range from an aftermarket unit. But you don’t have to subscribe to anything additional once the 12 month trial expires to use remote start from the keyfob . A salesperson has zero reason to get someone to continue the subscription, unless they want the App control .

 

This will only work on a truck with push button start

 

on my new 2022 trd off road I did have to actually enable the trial services before the key fob remote start would work. I never activated the trial because I’m not interested in paying. I took my truck to the dealer and asked about the remote start and no one could get it to work.

I saw this thread yesterday and actually activated the trial services. Now it immediately works via key fob. I’m hopeful that mine will also work after the trial period ends!
