I have been looking for an exhaust for my 3rd gen tacoma recently and have seen a few options I think sound pretty decent. The only problem is drone. In my MT tacoma at about 60-70mph I am around 2-2.5k rpms and have heard there is drone in the exhaust. Is there any way to remove drone from an exhaust or any exhaust ya'll recommend? I am looking for a budget option but throw out all ideas!!

You need a resonator. The only problem is that the only real spot to install one is where the rear joint is at. So, you'd now have a one piece y pipe and muffle section.

I’m all-for some VERY rowdy exhaust on true performance cars. If you have real power (and don’t have to drive it all day/everyday) I LOVE to hear it.

But, I have the TRD pro exhaust and it’s just the perfect blend of sound for a daily truck.

Otherwise the stock exhaust for the win on our little 3.5’s.

Earplugs cost like $5 for a 50 pack. You're welcome.

Drill a hole in your stock exhaust, save a ton of money. You're welcome.

Dump your OEM exhaust just before the axle. Improves clearance, sound and ass end symmetry.

    I like that look.

Tailpipes on my GTOs would fail every 18 months or so (back in the 60's) so I quit spending the $10 each to replace them and put chrome turn down exhaust tips right on the mufflers. Plural, because real dual exhaust.

OP, stock or TRD is the way to assure a drone free ride. And while things are 'ear of the listener' dependent, to my somewhat mechanical sounds discerning ears, these engines sound pretty lousy with other exhausts/alterations. There are no native hidden qualities waiting to be unleashed.

    100%.

I did that with the stock one and a Pro. Both were great improvements. I hung on to the stock one just in case the fam minded. I think it is time for it to find a new home.

Borla sounds very similar to TRD, just a hair louder. No drone at cruising speeds.

The upshot there is that you can get takeoff stock exhausts for pretty darn cheap.

I found no down side though. Just a bit more sound in a very good way.

Now, chopping the Pro gave a good bit more sound in the cab.

Keep it stock. The aftermarket exhausts on these trucks all sound like shit after awhile.

When I put the borla on my truck I liked it at first but after about 10k miles it got really old. It downshifts a lot going up and down hills on my way to work and I'm tired of listening to it lol.

    Stock-ish
Running a mbrp with a resonator, pretty good tone with no drone. Exhaust runs to the spare tire location to it exits out the back more than having the boom box effect under the bed/dumped before the axle

did this right after I bought it, stock exhaust. sounds better to me than the pro or after markets. LOL, the pipe fell off right before inspection last month......had no idea it wasn't needed to pass.
