Trying to remove this piece and put some felt on the sides because it is rattling. Any ideas? I notice there is a small clip of some sort on the left side...

I can't tell you how many plastic pieces I broke on my 1st gen, just yanking. Can you elaborate?

Pull down towards the floor? Out towards the wheel? What's the clip all about?

Ok copy that. I'll give it a yank then.

4 yellow clips on backside. They are tuff, I've pulled mine out plenty of tine and it snaps back in.

    Pull straight out.

I remember grabbing it on both ends and lightly pushing those ends inward as I lightly pulled out. I guarantee you if I, who knows nothing about vehicles besides gassing them up (wait, fueling them up, lol) and changing the oil, you can do it, too.

Put my brake controller in there. Took it out and cut a hole for the wires and then put it back. Have a Prodigy P3 control that I use occasionally when I go camping. Works great.

Yep comes right out with a firm yank. It needed some extra felt where plastic meets plastic to kill a rattle.
