Anyone know any tricks or tips on how to buff out or make scratches in the clear coat less noticeable? :)

That article is ok and gives a somewhat decent overview of the process.

Fwiw, if you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, chances are pretty good that you won't be able to remove it and make it disappear.

I wouldn't say theres any tricks which eliminate the compounding step of the process. Maybe the only trick that the fly by night detail shops use is an oil heavy glaze or filler that will make the surface look amazing, but easily washes off. They sell higher quality glazes online or in the stores, but they provide almost no durability or protection. They do provide some great depth and gloss though.

Thanks for the info!! Unfortunately, I can feel it with my fingernail. Bought my truck used, and it came with a hefty amount of scratches.

Still worth a shot. Sometimes you can still improve the appearance. Think of it this way; the reason you see a scratch is because the light reflects (or is it refracts) off the edges of the damaged area (the scratch). By polishing/compounding/etc, you essentially smooth those edges out and the "scratch" becomes less visible. Similar concept goes for the glazes/waxes. They can help to fill the scratch temporarily changing the way you see the defect.
