How to remove spare tire

    I have a 2010 that has a "key" and uses a wire cable to lower the spare. Once per year the spare gets lowered and the cable and whole mechanism gets spareyed with some rust proof spray (Fluid Film, Krown, etc). I think the key for these parts, like a lot of other parts on these trucks, is keeping ahead of the rust.

    They started as a Chain Hoist ( my 1980 Toyota had a chain hoist ). They then went to a cable for some insane reason which had issues of rotting off and dropping the spare on the road. They then went back to a reliable and proven chain system again.
