So I've found lots of info about removing the entire overhead console, but I'm struggling to find anyone who has removed the actual door that holds the sunglasses. What I'd like to do is remove it so I can install the OTRATTW switch holder in there. I'll need to cut a hole and that will be MUCH easier if I can take it out.

The only thing I've seen is someone suggest taking out the overhead console, heating the sunglasses compartment to remove that, and then you're able to remove the door. This seems awfully complicated and I feel like the door should probably just pop out - but I'm scared to yank too hard for fear I'll be pulling in the wrong direction or end up breaking some tabs.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

you will need to grind away the plastic tabs that are holding the pocket in place (they are melted into place), then you can move the pocket and remove the door. Afterwards you can hot glue the tabs back in place

Not sure if you still need this advice however you can just squeeze the side of the door and it will pop out. You'll want to squeeze the side without the gear.

I know this thread is old, but it's still the top hit for this question. Here's what I figured out (3rd gen), maybe it will be helpful:

    - First, remove the console - pull firmly, many threads about this.
    - On the passenger side, remove the spring that preloads the door. I just flicked it down with some pliers and it popped off.

    - On the driver side, pop the gear out with a small screwdriver (red)
    - Then, pry things apart and slip the pivots out, driver side first. Notice that the driver side pivot has a chamfer, which helps it slide out.

The gear hole is big enough to slide connector through, so you don't even need to drill for a switch panel cable!
