I want to install a 2-port USB and volt-meter in this panel. Either replacing one of the existing 2 devices or adding a hole in the middle for a 3rd device. I've not found any info on how to remove that panel and don't want to break something while trying.

If you remove the AC panel with the knobs you should have enough space to install the USB port. It's tight but that should be enough.

Thanks for the spe edy reply. Is there a video or instructions for that? I've seen how to remove the center console and the instrument cluster and the panel holding the radio. Can you advise and point me to the right place?

I did this a while back and swapped the panel out for the late 2nd gen console which provides four positions for switches vs three and they are more easily accessible. If I remember correctly you have to remove a lot of panels to get that sucker out (lower steering column panel, stereo, center ac vent trim, cup holder/cubby, shifter bezel and surround, arm rest). If you don't care about re using the switch blank in the future you can install a self tapping screw into it and pull it out with a pair of pliers. Then fish your wires in from the back for the new switch.

This video shows how to remove the climate panel. Not the same mod as yours but gets to the same place:

Edit: Sorry, this is for a 3gen. Apologies for posting.

The 3 AC knobs pull right off, then you use a plastic trim removal tool and pry the panel out and unplug from behind.

The OP has a 07, so he doesn’t have any switch blank holes. He wants to remove either the power port or the lighter and replace it with a round USB port piece. It is possible to get the power port out without removing the panel, but I’m sure the round aftermarket piece is going to have a threaded nut on the back that is going to be impossible to install. Removing the panel requires major disassembly. If you’re going to all that work, you might as well install a newer panel with switch blank holes.
