    Hello All,

Getting a full dip done on my black 2005 DBL cab. ( I am taking it to MAACO for an inexpensive paint job)
I am pulling everything I can to ensure a good paint job and as little masking lines as possible.

To that end, I am pulling the bumpers, flares, handles, etc. I also need to remove the bed so the tops of the metal bed walls can get painted. Anyone have a guide to doing that. I can crawl under & start taking out bolts & screws, but with all things, experience is the best teacher.

I did a search but did not find anything. Any help greatly appreciated !!

The bolts for the bed are visible on the bed floor. The plastic bedside caps just snap off.

If I’m understanding correctly, you want to remove the bed rail caps, not the entire bed, so they can paint the top of the fenders?

when you say ‘metal bed walls’ youre Referring to the rear fenders, not the inside walls of the bed?

I'm sure he'll want to remove the entire bed so they can paint the bed front between the cab and the bed also. If not he could just remove the cap and pull the bed sides off to paint them.

I'm wanting to remove the entire inner bed walls. It looks like I have to un-do more than just the four large bed bolts. I already have the plastic fender tops off. Anything else?

    Thanks!

You do know that's what's holding the bedsides on, right? It's not a cover, it is the actual bed.

If you take the bed off, the fenders come off with it, as they’re attached to it. The black plastic you see isn’t a bed liner, it’s the actual bed, our bed are a composite material.

Not sure why you need access to the inside of the fenders :notsure:

maybe could employ similar method as below for bed removal:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/removing-bed-cap-without-a-hoist.269921/

I also saw a TW member who removed the bed single-handed by using a hoist under a large tree limb, but I can't relocate the photo.

Thank you TacoGlenn!! I did a search for this topic, guess my search-fu is off.

I was not aware that the composite tub holds fenders in place, that is why I started here. I guess I'll prep it for removal and have the shop do the removal for paint. I'm thinking of having them remove the fenders as well.

I am removing everything I can door handles, side mirrors, front bumper, rear, etc. I already have the flares and wheel houses off.
