I like this method the best!

Maybe a different terrible paint job over the top of the last one every year (or whenever I get bored)?

I spent some time today with some lacquer thinner and a rag. I figured that if taking off the cover paint also ruined the original clear coat then I could always just spray over the top and it wouldn't look any worse than what it already was! The thinner actually seemed to work pretty well, but it was kind of time consuming. I also used a whole 32oz can of thinner just doing about half the hood and part of the front fender. Some of this came off quick, but other parts were really tough. The middle of the hood is the most difficult so far (maybe baked on a little from engine heat?).

I did find some rust spots on the edge of the hood, but that's been the worst paint damage that I've found underneath all this cover paint. Maybe the previous owner was just bored with this color of green? I'll be pretty stoked if I find a nice looking green paint job under here. It's like ripping up carpet to find hardwood floors! :)

A few clay bars might help some tooat some point. It works well on heavy overspray.
