Either get the overlays and make them match or remove the chrome at least. It’s all personal preference of course. Do what works for you my man!

I will never get over the matte black if this is my truck until I get the original chrome emblems :D. Personal preference.

I think what soundman is saying is that if the tailgate was originally one color and they painted it a different color to match your truck, that they may not have removed the badges, painted the whole surface and then reapplied them. So when you go to remove the badges there may be a different color underneath?
I hadn’t considered that and wouldn’t want to find out…
I change my vote to overlays on the chrome badges to match the black ones on the tailgate :D

I wonder if they just bought the tailgate from another MGM tacoma like from a Copart place and bolted it on?

What I meant was it probably wasn't even painted. It was likely pulled from another MGM truck with those blackout emblems on there.

The positive to that is factory paint will match much better as far as color and texture.

If it really bothers you I would take it back to the shop and have them deal with it. There's a chance the paint could come off if you remove the emblems.

However, a hairdryer works best if you want to try it yourself. Heat it up really good, then floss behind it with some fishing line to break the adhesion. A small bit of goof off would take care of whatever was left behind.

Either the used gate was the same color and not painted at all, or the emblems were removed, the used gate painted, and the emblems reinstalled. Those emblems were not masked off.

first i've ever heard this saying. It's also been around for 100+ years. Basically since automobiles were invented. Has nothing to do with the 80s, amigo.

stop the gatekeeping and old man slander, Junior

Oh absolutely about Chrome being around for 100 years. But it hasn't really been popular or desired since the 80's.
And at 50, I'm tickled shitless to be called junior.

Black badging doesn't really mean its used because I think some models come from factory like that. But I think you are right to assume used from the tailgate "tacoma" letter inserts.

tailgate emblems are an option only. no models "come" with them.

It would be nice to have a “chrome package” be an expensive factory option. Then maybe we could figure out who these people are that seem to be keeping the demand up and encouraging manufacturers to continue with the chrome nonsense. I guess that wouldn’t work with Toyota since you can’t option their cars though. Would need to be a BMW experiment. Porsche is smart enough to not offer chrome.
