I know this is a couple years old, but how are the TYC's holding up? K Source? I'm about to spring for a set and wouldn't mind some follow up. Thanks

I bought TYC mirrors when I retrofitted my truck with power windows, locks, and mirrors. (Link in signature) They look nice, are sturdy, and appear to well built. But they shake like hell which is the problem OP had. My passenger side mirror surprisingly doesn't shake or vibrate at all, but at highway speeds my Driver's mirror was really bad. I ended up replacing the driver's side with an OEM mirror and the rattling was gone.

The actual mirror shakes? Or the whole assembly? So you just replaced the mirror portion?

The mirror glass. It vibrates and rattles at highway speeds which causes visibility issues. It's a common issue on all aftermarket mirrors. I replaced the whole mirror assembly with an OEM one and the shaking was gone.

Gotcha. It's weird the driver's side shakes but the passenger's side doesn't. Did you happen to notice any difference with the OEM version?

I just ordered the TYC pair. I wonder if there is a way to add dampening to the mirror...

The TYC is nearly identical to the OEM. I would even go as far to say it's better than the OEM if it wasn't for the shaking. It's pretty well built for the price, and the motors are quieter than the OEM.

Got my mirrors in, but had my first bad experience in a dozen or more orders from rockauto. They were both black but had different finishes. Kind of annoying. I went ahead and installed the one I preferred and discovered the studs will need to be trimmed down since they stick too far into the cab to let the plastic cover piece go back on. No comment yet on whether or not there's any vibration. rockauto gave me a return label so hopefully I'll have the driver's side in a week.

I don't think you have to trim the studs, mine fit back on just fine without any trimming.

Buy only the OEM mirrors, I replaced my old small mirrors with 2004 mirrors,
They work perfectly, no rattles, no vibration, no issues, just a new coat of paint
and now after the car wash I don't have to try and adjust the mirrors anymore
and they fold away if needed

In my case the studs do stick too far into the cab so my plastic piece doesn't fit back on. It's not a big deal, I'll just cut them to the length they need to be.

As for OEM...I'd love to, but there's nothing immediately local to me, and the used ones I found on ebay were twice the price and scuffed up. I don't mind trying the TYC brand and seeing if I can figure out how to mute the rattle on my own...

The aftermarket ones are really poor quality, if you can spend the extra bucks
    for OEM

Just did this mod. I couldn't stand adjusting the manual mirrors anymore and the little switch blank on the arm rest was taunting me to do something about it. Well worth the effort to wire it all up. I picked up an OEM used set on car-part.com for about $100 so I didn't have to worry about poor quality aftermarket ones.

You probably wonder why it took you so long dealing with those old small style mirrors and they keep
    getting out of adjustment

If you have a trailer these 2004 mirrors will definitely help as they are larger footprint, they are OEM, they fold away also and snap back to THIER original position when snapped back, no adjustment needed unlike the original mirrors that
need adjustment every time they get bumped

There's a guy a few posts up who put the 01-04 mirrors on his '97 so I think the answer is yes. I also have a 2000 and want to do this mod. The small mirrors are terrible.

But there is some confusion on my part about whether there are a couple different size mirrors for the 2001-2004 Tacomas. The ebay listing below is for a 01-04 Tacoma but the mirror is small.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-2004-TOYOTA-TACOMA-MANUAL-MIRROR-RH-PASSENGER-/271578795215?fits=Year:2004|Model:Tacoma&epid=78934554&hash=item3f3b5b8ccf:g:7LMAAOSwPe1T7~5M&vxp=mtr

Also, the part number I find on a Toyota website for a MANUAL 2004 mirror is 87910-04901 and the image of the mirror (although it's just a graphic) looks like the small mirror I already have. Could it be that the manual mirrors are small and the electric are larger?

Yes, the doors on all the 1st gen Tacomas were exactly the same regardless of standard cab, extended cab, or double cab. I have 2004 Double Cab Limited door panels and mirrors on my 1998 Extended Cab.

Easy easy pop inside cover off, take off the 3 nuts and put the newer ones on, you don't need the wiring unless you want to connect to make them working
    Make sure they are OEM
The other after market ones are junk

Yeah, but if I already have a manual mirror and replace it with a power mirror, the trim plate will have a hole in it where the manual adjuster arm used to be. I'm just trying to figure out if the 2004 manual mirror is the same size as the large power mirrors I see in your pic.
