I’ve done about 50,000mi on this torn boot, and something is starting a low squeak whenever I turn. Not sure if it’s because the rack is going out, or low power steering fluid. Are there any guides on how to replace this boot?

If the boot has been shot for 50K miles my guess the CV joint is (also) shot.

That’s the steering rack, not the CV.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If the steering Rack has been exposed to dirt and road slop for 50,000 miles I venture you have more to worry about then just the boot.

Simple to replace remove the inner tie rod and slip the new one on. Depending where the truck lives getting the Jam nut(lock nut) loose can be exciting.

Count the turns as best you can to get close then do an alignment

    Oh man.

Take care of that quick; that could turn out to be a "where's the cheapest place to buy a new steering rack..." thread.

Rack and pinion OEM is surprisingly cheap online… only $530, I thought it would be closer to $1,200. I’ll fix the boot until the rack gives out

What are signs of a failing rack and pinion? When I turn my tires quickly, sometimes I hear a low squeak or a thud. Not sure if the thud is suspension related

A real good sign is adding ATF every time before you drive the truck!

You get so used to the power steering pump running low on fluid you no longer notice.

Friends say please park down the street !

Steering gets harder all the time till one day it does not turn at all which can be exciting or embarrassing .

Wow Transmission Leak and failing steering Rack !

How did you not go crazy the way you baby( we all do somewhat) your truck for 50,000 miles.

Have someone else do the service and not notice the torn boot or just thought no big deal??
