    Hey guys,

For the longest time I didn't think Toyota had back-lit the factory fog light switch. Then after a little searching, I found out that my fog light switch bulb has just been burnt out the whole time I've owned my truck. I finally got around to putting a new bulb in the switch today, and figured I'd do a brief write-up on how to do it since I couldn't find a specific thread on it anywhere. This is a really simple job. I finished it in about 15 minutes.

The reason I needed to do this:
    2015-01-31%2017.22.33_zpsyeoejaah_745bb39792f8962c7ce94b6ba3cd1a6a57d94d51.jpg

    Supplies needed:

-From the Toyota dealer part number 90011-01058
-Fishing line (I used some 20lb line I had left over from debadging)
    -A small flathead screw driver
-(optional) a small dental pick style tool

The first thing you'll need to do is remove the change cubby on the left side of the steering wheel. This is easily done by pulling straight down on it while it's open. From here, put your hand up under the dash and push out the mirror control switch from behind.

    2015-01-31%2017.23.27_zps9vdiu7lm_5b26f43da9264a5c8542e3f1b1e768c763f5786b.jpg

Next you'll want to wrap your fishing line around the foglight switch. This is where I found the pick to be useful in shoving the line under the corners of the switch.

After this, I shoved my right hand through the cubby hole and pushed on the back of the fog light switch. It's a tight fit back there.

At the same time, pull with medium tension on the fishing line and push on the back of the switch. The switch should just push out. After it's out push on the clip and unplug it.

    20150131_164651_zpsdgrshke6_961a7b9b485abc5dcb8d38ed5dd02fa49f61be81.jpg

From here you'll be able to see the bulb. Using a flathead, turn it a quarter turn counter-clockwise; it should loosen up and come right out.

    The bulb:

After this reverse the whole process and you should be done. your final product should look something like this:

Hope this helps a few of you guys out. Make sure to be gentle with everything. Plastic likes to break. This method worked very well for me, and it did not necessitate me removing the whole lower dash. Oh yeah, the bulb cost me just under $7 after tax from the dealer.

Did all years and models have the switch lit?

Yes but I think from 2005 until 2011 it was amber. And now from 2012 to present is green

You can get the silicon covers and bulbs cheaper from autolumination. They sell the silicon covers in several colors. They shipped my order in a $5 flat rate box.

Thanks for the tip. That would've been nice to know. My dealer was kind of a pain to work with.

You'd think those bulbs they're selling are made of gold. The AC controls bulbs are $15 a piece from the dealer.

Haha I completely agree. I walked out of the dealer with the smallest light bulb I'd ever bought and paid the most for it out of any light bulb I've bought.

I changed mine to white led a few years ago. But I had to put in a resistor in order not to burn out the bulb.

For all the hassle of taking all that apart, I keep a spare to throw back in.

I know what you mean about lots to choose from but it's been a while since I ordered. I believe they are Type A / T3 Neo - Wedge Incandescent Instrument Panel Bulbs. From the web site "Neo - Wedge Incandescent Instrument Panel Bulbs Type A, B & C (Note to choose the correct bulb, measure the diameter". They come in various colors. I think I paid $1.99 each. You will need to measure your existing bulb to be sure of which bulb to order. I didn't keep the receipt. I think they sell LEDs that fit too but I don't know if they would illuminate the switch correctly.

I bought T3 LEDs off eBay cause I wanted to swap colors out. LEDS illuminate just fine, my switches get a few hotspots of light but no big deal to me.

Like LJ said, measure your bulbs and make sure not to get anything larger, your switches will NOT function because of the bulb being in the way.

I currently run red but it's really too dim, going to switch to white to match my dash

Wow.. awesome. I have been cursing Toyota since I got my Taco. I was appalled that I spent the money I did to discover that they couldn't even back light the fog switch. Now I know how to solve that issue. Also what drives me crazy is my door locks and window tabs as well as my garage door tabs on the mirror also do not light up? are those bulb issues also???
