Just wanted to add my experience with this recalibration. I had my vsc light come on after my urd header installation. I didn't get steering shaft lined up straight so it kicked light on. After lining it up correctly my vsc light was still on. I did the reset procedure and the vsc and abs didn't blink on the first step, but they did do the fast flash on last step. I drove it some today and the light is still off.

Pretty easy to construct, just finished assembling and tested on my bench. I will be trying on my truck soon as I just got all new rear suspension and the alignment completely goofed the VSC cal.
I may even do a video showing it working and the process.

A couple going on (virtual work in progress)
This worked perfectly after replacing my LCA's and getting an alighnment (2017 TRD Sport 4X4 DCSB). Only took a total of 5 mins.

I was able to almost do this, the two lights did not flash at the same time, they alternated. It all started after I replaced my battery. Any help is appreciated. It’s a 2016 Tacoma..

I can't seem to get this to work, my slip indicator light is on all the time.
I was driving and the rear left wheel dropped into a hole and locked up for a sec as if I was pulling hard on the brake.

    Vehicle is on flat surface.

    This is after step 1.
    1. Turn the ignition to the on position, and then short out the pins, 4 times or more within an eight second period. If you're successful the ABS light, and the slip indicator light will flash simultaneously at a steady interval. Congratulations you just wiped the mind of the VSC computer!

    This is after step 3.

    3. The Parking Brake must be engaged. Next, short out the pins with your wire, leave the wire in there, turn ignition to on position. Be careful not to disturb the truck, must remain very still for two seconds during calibration. Observe the ABS light and the slip indicator light they will be flashing simultaneously at a steady rapid interval, faster than before.)

ABS light goes out but slip light still on.

I should also mention that sometimes when turning right, the steering feels as if something is grinding slightly. And previous owner mentioned it may be the clock spring behind the steering wheel.

OMG, thank you for the write up, I replaced pinion and rack and the whole front suspension and after that the abs and trac light was on, I thought they damaged a sensor, then I went up to the mountains and I was taking a sharp turn and the truck made a grinding noise and slowed down, starting beeping( I thought the tire was rubbing). The shop told me to take it back to do a zero calibration but I didn’t put all the info together. I’ll try to do this today. Truck is loaded now with about 600 pounds. Should this be done with the truck unloaded ???

Do it with the truck in its 'normal' config i.e. however you drive the most. For most people that would be unloaded

Though you can certainly re-do it later if needed

Hoping for some help here. I have a 2015 OR with a 6spd. My horn has been out for a while, so I decided to replace the clock spring. I stepped away and the clock spring rotated 180 down and when I swapped the steering angle sensor into the new clock spring I guessed which way it needed to rotate to get back to the right position. I must have been wrong, because when I reconnected everything the slip light was on solid.

Trying this process, I get the ABS and slip light to flash during the first step, but it happens at different rates and they're not in sync.

When I try the step 2, the ABS light flashes faster but the slip indicator light stays solid. Then I turn the truck off and on after removing the jump wire and I'm left with a solid slip indicator light.

Do I have a fault code that needs to be cleared before I can complete this process? Thinking about taking it to the local off road shop, but the whole reason I took on the clock spring job was to avoid shop fees. Any advice?

Update in case anyone else experiences this pattern of flashing. I took the truck to a qualified local offroad shop and they attempted to reset the VSC but were unable to due because the truck was showing no communication to the steering angle sensor. They said the cheapo clock spring I install was probably faulty from the factory.

I went home and disassembled the whole thing again. Turns out the one of the most common reasons the steering angle sensor loses communication with the computer is if you forget to plug it in :annoyed:

I had hoped this would be the answer I’ve been looking for. Followed the steps, everything went as described, the I started out of the drive way, the light popped on again…. Ugh.

so far, I’ve changed the fuel cap, disconnected the batter, had oriellys check for code & got nothing. Any suggestions would be helpful….

Tim, would be glad to help but not sure what your problem is, unless you laid that out earlier. I would recommend you start a new thread in the appropriate gen section and there will be plenty to lend knowledge.
