How to: restoring factory mud flap lettering!

Noticed my mud flap letters were worn and fading...looked up how much to buy some OEM ones...$175 for a set!!! Eeek. Decided to try and repaint em myself. Here was the process:

They started off like this:


Masked them off with some frog masking tape:


Cut out the portion I did not want painted with a sharp hobby knife. Then sprayed them with some krylon white primer:



Carefully peeled back the masking tape with the hobby knife then used the tape to pick up any sticky residue left behind:

Scraped off any paint that was imperfect or unlike the way I wanted it and here’s the end result:


Not factory fresh but much better than they were in my opinion and only cost me a few bucks! Give it a shot!

 

I was going to maybe paint mine red since I took them off but those look a lot better. I’ll have to clean them first. Thanks for the idea. If I end up doing it I’ll post up pics

Some variants ideas..........

Use reflective white for a bit more bling and something no one else has. (I mean it would seem fitting for the name @Joey_Bada_Bing, right? )

Or just remove the rest of the OE finish to match the rest of the flap for the 'paint it black' crowd.

 

It’s either a white paint pen or red spray paint for the lettering. I don’t want the flaps to look like they on a 2wd. I think I’ll do the white

 

1st mod I did was remove the 4wd mudflaps for the prerunner style.

Yeah front driveshaft is just aesthetic, flaps is what makes them wheels turn

 

Surprisingly most people think if it says 4x4 on the bed it has to be. One of my friends did not know how to put his ram 1500 in 4 hi
