Ive waxed it every few months but I've only owned it for about 9 months. other than that i have no clue i bought it from a dealer and looked like it was used as a fleet vehicle from the paperwork in the glovebox.

Hmm. Repeated compounding/polishing can compromise clear coat. And it would make sense that it would happen on the rockers due to the uneven texture (little high spots would wear quicker). If it was simply due to weathering, it seems like it would start on the spots more exposed to weathering. Always possible it was just a randomly bad app of cc for some reason and you got bad bonding.

I bought my truck in 2010 and didn't have any issues until about 3 years later but once it started in was downhill fast. You might want to really inspect the other panels on that side of the truck for signs of a paint job (e.g. pull back rubber seals and look for tape lines.) Also, look for really small "bubbles' that might not seem like anything but are actually signs of clear coat failure.

Once it starts, it's gonna continue pretty quickly. Fix it soon or get rid of the truck. Unless you don't mind it.

If it were me- because it's happening in two spots on two different panels, I'd be afraid if you do spot-fixes, you could have other spots pop up in the future elsewhere on the truck. It's appears to be a widespread problem. Or could turn into one.

This would lead me to do either a full repaint and keep it or do inexpensive spot repairs and trade the truck ASAP.

and it wasn't really wax but liquid glass that i believe is a lot easier on paint than buffing out wax.

It's an '06 that he bought a few months ago. It could have been buffed multiple times before he got it.

At the very least, do spot fixes or you could end up with a bigger problem really quickly. Totally understand if money is tight, but just letting you know what may lie ahead if this isn't addressed.

LG wouldn't have caused this I don't think. It's not the liquid glass chipping off, is it? I haven't used it. So I don't know how that stuff applies.

If nothing else, get a paint sealer on the truck for protection and apply it often. Something like Menzerna Power Lock or Meguires Ultimate Liquid Wax. Avoid anything with abrasives.

Are you saying Pyrite Mica doesn't have a solo layer of clear coat? It's mixed in throughout?

Its not the LG chipping off it hasn't been applied in a few months. Maybe ill just get the rockers bedlined. I plan on keeping the truck anyways and its almost paid off. It would hurt to dump a lot of money into fixing something cosmetic thats 10 years old.

That appears to be the case, yes. There is nothing wrong with a single stage paint.

any thoughts on rocker panel rhino lining? Got a shop here that does good pricing for military and has done good work on friends trucks. The rockers on my truck have quite a few chips from rocks and theres more chips since i got rims with more backspacing.
