Maybe the stock tweeters are not that bad but are being hindered by the stock HU, hence the small difference between on an aftermarket HU, or it could always just be me.. I had replaced my stock premium HU for an amazing android HU with a decent dsp a couple of weeks ago and instantly noticed a huge improvement in clarity and bass once I calibrated it.

Wow. I am impressed. I think I'll throw in the rest of the kicker speakers too.

Did this upgrade today. Took about 30 minutes total time. Easy and cheap mod that drastically improves the factory sound. Thanks! ;)

Sunday I ordered the Subaru tweeters, Kicker 3 ways up front. 2 ways for the rear, noico foil for at least the front two doors (I want to do all four doors and proper deaden behind the rear seats), and the tools and tape to do it all.

The tweeters got here first, everything else will be here tomorrow. I can't wait to hear the difference, the speaker quality was my very first complaint.

I understand I could get better quality from component speakers at this point, but I don't really know what I'm doing and this Tacoma is the most expensive thing I own, so I'm really happy with the plug and play nature and the fact that so many people are still doing this and seeing awesome results.

The Subaru tweeters sound like ass - shrill highs sounds like a ssssssnake is sssssinging; not to mention cymbalssssss. People just like em cause they weigh more and they are different than what came with the truck.

couldn't agree more. Installed them Sunday, been trying to appreciate them but they just don't sound good. totally different speaker from the one removed. lost a lot of mid range and warmer sounds. sure the Subaru's have the edge with the highs but you have to really crank up the volume to drive em. the original are going back in this weekend.

Just to be clear, since the Subaru’s tweeters are “plug and play” that means I can ignore the part on crutchfield where it says that I will have to splice wires if I replace the tweeters right?

Just ordered my tweeters. I bought my truck last Friday. This will be my first mod.

I can only speak for my 2017 TRD Sport DCLB. Yes, you can ignore that part. I simply unplugged the old tweeters and plugged in the new tweeters. Ee-zee Pee-zee Boobie-Squeezee.

I haven't heard the subaru speakers, but in general speakers need time to break in. They'll almost always sound shrill in the beginning before warming up after hours of use. Same with guitar amps.

Agree - but these are ribbon tweeters, I've had them for over a year now and still notice the bad sound. If they weren't PnP and non-Toyota OEM people wouldn't use them.

Installed my new tweeters over the weekend. Although it was huge upgrade, I'm still getting cracks and pops from the door speakers at volume levels > 36. I'm planning on replacing them over the next couple of weeks. Any recommendations for best value?

I went with the kicker cs series. 6x9 in the front doors, 6.75 in the rears.

Are you using them with oem Entune head? Do they sound clear at higher volumes?

Well first you should know my ears aren't the best, that being said they sound good to me. I have an Sr5 with the oem cheap entune head unit.

Thanks for the response. I'm no audiophile by any means, I just like for my music to be clear. Right now, they sound like I'm running a Cobb crackle & pop tune on them. I'll check the Kicker CS series speakers out. Thanks for the advice.

I see some people are putting there old OEM tweeters on eBay. Are there actually buyers for this garbage?

I got my '16 Taco a couple of months ago & the first upgrade I made was the Subaru tweeters....amazing difference! I have a non-JBL with premium Entune stereo
Then I ordered the Kicker CS front & rear speakers from Crutchfield. EVERYTHING is included & they make it extremely easy, just take your time. Grab some beers & enjoy the weather like I did!
I went from an SUV with a sub & amp & with this Kicker upgrade I don't feel like I am missing anything! Great bass & responsiveness with the upgrade. I'm happy
