Anyone try getting these from a local Subaru dealer? Was hoping to pick some up locally for same price rather then order online.

Anyone know if these will fit the 2nd gens in the door as well? The stock ones look exactly the same but I haven’t been able to physically compare side by side

    Too much.
Even if they did, I'm not sure the plug is the same

I really need to do this. I have the tweeters, just need to find the time to do it. Is there a trick to removing the A pillar panel? I just don't wanna break anything.

There is 1 bolt on the Drivers Side and 2 in the grab handle on the Passenger Side and then they come off pretty easily.

I am not really sure on this question. In a non-technical manner, I can try to explain. @ToyoTacoTurner can explain better.

After the upgrade, the tweeters produce a much cleaner/clearer sound and more crisp vocals and highs. So since these are producing better highs and we are still using the factory wiring harness, then I suppose the system recognizes this and adjusts. It seems that the door speakers now produce better low-end sound and even the bass seems to sound better. Turner explained it as the tweeters are now performing better on the high-end range thus reducing the workload of the door speakers and providing them the ability to concentrate more on the low-end sound as intended so this provides an all around better sound quality.

Thanks for the update...I am indeed an audio-nut, but ironically, don't find the stock system as bad as many folks do. I guess it's possible that the crossover to the woofer in the door is located in the tweeter, so that could account for a change in the woofer performance after adding the new tweeter. This would also account for the tweeter operating in its proper range, and perhaps even relieving the woofer in the door of some midrange responsibilities. You could get real deep in this and talk about crossover points, slopes and such, but there are so many bigger issues with audio in a car that it would be moot.

I'll probably do the upgrade as my hearing in the upper frequencies needs a boost, and the highs coming from a dome are certainly going to be better than those coming from a cheap, 3" paper cone.

I don't have a FRC on this so I am purely speaking from my personal experience with audio and my personal preference on crossover points but these two little domes drastically improved my listening experience. The crossover points has absolutely changed, that's exactly what this mod is designed to do. The old paper tweeters are trash and the magnet on this dome is a significant improvement over what we were messing with before.

In brief, this tweeter does NOT increase your bass output on woofers like some say (but you obviously already knew that). These tweeters provide cleaner "highs" and allows the woofers to focus on the lower frequencies to produce a cleaner sound which removes the muddled effect on lows (bass). Yes this is all plain-speak but I was happy enough with the simplicity of the change to not crack into the technical stuff to do research and evaluations. The changes I've realized would agree that the cross over point has changed though.

If you are wanting frequency response curves and are worried about crossover points then you should just buy a component system and wire that up.

This mod is not the Savior of all things. This is a mod that provides a HUGE ROI vs. time & cost.

I would argue that if you viewed all mods as:

ROI = Delta of Functionality or Happiness/ (Time *Cost)
this one would score pretty. damn. high.

Not 'worried' about crossover points, 'interested' in them before shelling out $100 as I can relate to them. They post a pic of the speaker but not of the spec ?

The sound is much clearer and cleaner with them in, it was an improvement over stock and then a couple weeks later I did the door speakers, it was worth the small investment in my humble opinion.

Spend the $100 investment it’s worth it. Bottom line is that it’s better than the paper trash that’s there now and they are 100% plug and play for 3rd gens. Takes 5 minutes.

Does anybody know if these speakers would work the same in the 4Runner? I think the stock sound is similar between the Tacoma and 4Runner.
