How to: Swapping 2012-2015 AC Controls into 2005-2011 Tacoma

Oh man that’s sick! My interior is all blue and white so I’d like that. I thought you weren’t able to change the lights in these?

 

I didn’t do it. Must have bought it from someone who did.

I would swap w you if you want, you handled the rheostat problem already?

 

Negative I still just have the stock ‘06 control unit

 

I could attempt to change my orange dash lights but I already got my homelink mirror in orange to match so not super stoked with having to swap that out too cause it’s a unicorn w temp.

 

K, find a clean black setup and I’ll swap my blue for your two so I can build one more set. Well, only need the board from the silver set. I will include the harness too, it’ll be a 5 minute swap for you.

 

Dang that sounds like a sweet deal if I can get my hands on a black unit. So for my ‘06 it’s just a harness you make to make the AC work normal? I’ve read through this thread a few times but it’s still a little confusing lol

 

Yeah, I’ll send you the blue setup fully tested in my ‘05. I assume it will work perfectly in your ‘06 and my dad’s ‘06.

I’d rather have white or orange than blue, looks a little loco to me.

I really hate building the harness but I’ve got two so I can make one more.

 

The temp control I got an assist for resoldering the older rheostat to the new board. Excessive to consume two sets just to produce one final but it’s a super clean finished board vs slashing the traces and adding wires.

 

I’d be down to give it a shot. I will come find ya when I find a unit to swap with you

The harness is a PITA

 

I’d be interested in a harness if you happen to make a couple, I can take care of the other things on my own. Just looking to swap to a black one with the factory orange lights. Thanks!

 

Yeah, I’m sure I could sell some of these harnesses. I just truly hate making them.

If anyone might be able to track down repair wires at a reasonable bulk cost, that could help. Crimping the male terminals is not nearly as bad as the females.

I’ll ask and maybe I can get some. Just makes it way harder if they are all the same color, I’d have to label.

 

I can imagine that being a bit of a challenge. Wouldn’t mind doing it myself but sourcing all the connectors is just a turn off for me. I could probably get it figured out but I’d rather just pay like $100 and be done with it. Either way if you happen to make some I’d definitely take one!

 

I ordered the fancy blue crimper, I'll see if that makes this easier than the ones I have and evaluate based on that.
