    Hey fellas,
I am needing some advice on hauling my rod/reel's in my truck.
I hate when I just put them in the bed and they smack around
Any ideas on how to store them, or tie them down?
I only have a standard cab, so no putting them on the inside :)

That's pretty sweet, where'd you get those mounts? I've got a 9' fly rod, but it breaks down, and would fit in my 5' bed. I guess the other option is to get a tube that I can mount on my roof rack.

    Wow, thats nice.
    I have a 6' bed
    My poles range from 5' 5" to 7' 6"
    They are one piece
My truck is a 2002, if that makes a difference
I dont have the fancy bed rails the newer trucks do
That being said I am not afraid to screw right into the sucker :)

Not much yet, got a pretty good sound system w/ my custom sub box. Plan on adding more lights & a tool box.
PVC pipe is your friend! Cut to length, buy a couple of caps with foam of some sort on the ends, maybe wrap them in a towel, done. I'd not mount them in. Then you just slide them in the tube, cap it & toss it in your truck. They store nice in the garage that way also. Nice way to back-pack them in too, just pop a hole in both ends, thread a rope throo & knot. Careful you don't close one end too welll! or buy 1 threaded end w/ cap, then you got 'er done.

Thanks a lot for your help!
I just bought a berkley holder that can be mounted anywhere.
I have a plastic liner for my bed so I guess I will use some sort of self tapping screw
If you have another suggestion, I am game

    Well damn!
I might try this for security pourposes
I have a cap, which is on most of the time, but would like something permanent
This is a great suggestion though.
    I think a write-up is needed

    Question with the PVC though
If I wanted to carry a couple, or a few rod/reel combos, how wide of circumference pipes do they make that would be applicable for this?

Anything including what 1/2" to I'm guessing 2' or larger. If you don't find what you want at a Lowes/Home Repo store, try the job shack at any new commercial building site on a weekday. The thinwall (sched 80. I think) is what you want, unless you are worried about driving over it, then go with sched 40 or better, but they get heavy.

Here is an option, don't look at the red bar. Get quick fists, and make some brackets from alum. stock, get some rail bolts/blocks, this way won't have to drill in the bed, and you can remove at anytime.....:)

Sure you can put em inside. When I drive my old 87 mazda standard cab i put the handle in the passenger floor and open the rear window with the tip stickin out. If your back window dont open you can stick them out the passenger side window. It dont get in your passengers way to bad.

Thanks. I made them myself. It would have been better out of aluminum. You can buy the bazooka rod tube holder from BassPro and Cabelas. They have 2 sizes.

I mounted the aluminum rod holders to the tool box but have also mounted them to the front of the bed. When i go surf fishing I slide the tool box to the tailgate and J bolt it down. They also work great to hold an umbrella and I have a pole to hang a coleman lantern on when I stay out all night.

I go to Carolina beach in NC. I came back in Apr 08 with an ass load of deployment money and went on a little spending spree. I haul my kayaks, fishing gear and a whole lot of beer and tequila!
