The autozone compressors are worthless, they don't even fit around the coil. You could always take them to a shop to get compressed, that is what I ended up doing after 4 auto stores either did not rent, or the ones they did rent would not work.

I did the same thing. I 'rented' the Autozone compressor only to realize I like my fingers and would like to keep them. I even went to Harbor Freight to try a bigger one. Still crap.
A local garage did the shocks for me for $20 each.

Does this look wright? The AAL are not touching after installing the 3" Toytec Kit.

I'm no expert but that does not look right. I have the all and the tsb spring and they all touch pretty well and are all flush together.

That is an odd gap in there, its almost like the aal is bent

You think because I didnt get the TSB Spring done that its doing this?

Another theory is that the OEM springs before I added the "AAL", sagged from factory. So you think the new AAL does not contour to the sagging OEM springs???

Has anyone that lifted their truck with an Toytec 3" complete kit and looked like this? Will it settle?

I finished my install last week and it only took me about 6.5 hours. I did have a full workshop to use but what a fun time it was! I have never done a project like this before and this write up made it idiot proof. Thanks again! I would prefer using 2 c-clamps over the vice grips to clamp the leaf-spring bunch together. I would close each side little by litle to keep the pin bolt straight. That was really the only challenging part I had to do. I also took my front coil set up out and gave them to a mechanic's shop to intall the new coils. They had the REAL tool for the job. Only cost 40 bucks. My suspension settled out after a few days. It started off pretty stiff, but now its awesome!!

One other thing to do is to spray your lower control arm bushing so when you take it to get it aligned after the lift the alignment guy can actually do his job. I work in a alignment shop and it sucks to get a vehicle in to do an alignment and the bushings are so bound up you cant adjust the caster and camber where it need to be.

Looks like a good write-up. I'm about to start installing my AAL today, so here goes!

I know this is opening up an old thread, but the tool looks like a "GP Tools GP-2020" Spring compressor. I have been googling it, the part shows up on the searches, but when I go to the individual sites that list it, I can't find it in the website... My gut feel is it may be no longer available.. If I find it, Ill update with a link..

Thanks for this awesome write up! I spent 2 1/2 hours installing the Right Leaf spring, then 1 hour installing the Left leaf spring and that's it for today. I really enjoyed learning about my truck and I love the sense of accomplishment that comes with doing something yourself. Next week, I'll tackle new coils in the front.. what do you think, easier or tougher than the back?
