I know that this is a gen 2, but I'm sure the system is the same for the gen 3. Not many fans of Thule on here eh?

Used my set up all the time. Worked well. No complaints. FB_IMG_1491510677733.jpg 20160704_121640.jpg

Another vote for Boonedox bed extender here. I used to tow a small jet ski trailer, but this is alot less hassle and simplifies parking.

How are you liking it? Originally I wasn't sure I liked them simply because of the colors but then I figured its probably to help other motorist see it.

Do you have any additional pictures of how that is laid out? Or your build process? I like the low profile look.

I didn't have any wear on my Sienna using them, but not a bad idea!

This one came with one of my Yakima kayak kits, has the clear rubber tube hose that the strap slides through and the hose rests against the paint - never had any issues with this either.

I should put paint protector film on my hood for other reasons though, I've already collected some ugly rock chips.

I'm very happy with it so far. I used to use a trailer but this is alot more convenient for most trips. I pretty much only take the trailer when there are 3 or more of us going now. They do only come in orange, green and pink so that could be a problem if you don't want bright colors. I've considered sanding the paint off mine to make it match my bed rack since it's all aluminum and won't rust anyhow.

It may be possible that I have hauled a yak on the roof a few more times/miles than y'all. The hood on my '85 Toyota had a pair of nice shiny bare metal spots on the hood from those style straps. That did in no way deter me from using them though because they work great and I like them. I have a set for my '16 that I haven't bolted in side the fenders yet because I've been too lazy.

Decided to finally bang out a rack this weekend (thank you u tube). It's sturdy and can break it down pretty easy (8 bolts, 4 pieces). $123 in material from Home Cheapo and 3 hrs of work. yakrack.jpg

Coming back to this thread, I see a lot of folks use those orange ratchet straps..which is fine but I personally think they are a PITA to use. I love the NRS 1" cam buckle straps used for rafting. I have a pair in a variety of lengths...they secure in seconds without the annoying threading and hooking and ratcheting and getting stuck and releasing using two hands. And that cam buckle does NOT slip. Tighten and release with one hand.

So much faster than those ratchet straps, and once you get em you use them for everything (load the boats, use to hang hammocks at camp...use shorter lengths to secure gear in bed, use to loop around cooler to prevent beer garage sale if you tump, tow/lining rope for lining rapids, etc...)

I don't work for NRS, I just love the damn straps. http://www.nrs.com/product/1440/nrs-1-hd-tie-down-straps

I agree 100% with using the Cam Buckles! I use the Thule straps and the are much easier to use than ratchet straps.

    Few pics of our setup.
Didn't have the Kayaks loaded though.
The paddles were bugging me just tossing them in the bed so i used Quick fists on the side of the Prinsu. (had to drill a hole on either side for the rear fists) Easy to load and unload as well as remove the fists when we're not needing them.

Haven't had a chance to load them since I fed the bolts from the underside.
If so i'll get shorter bolts. BUT i do recall the edge of the Kayak sits further out on the outer pad.
