That switch gets wire to the ground side of the LED. Hook the power side of the LED to a fuse holder and then to the battery.

Okay so runs fused power straight to the red wire on my light. Then run the black wire to the switch??

Yup. The pin switch breaks the ground connection, turning off the lights.

I'm trying to figure out why my dome light won't turn off. Considering just re wiring it like how you posted. It's a aftermarket led

The LED may have a small amount of ridicule power left, stays dimly lit. That's how the LED side markers are on my BMW.

If that's not the case is anything else hooked to the dome light? It may be getting a ground from somewhere else.

There is a light in each door too. I haven't had a dome light for as long as I've owned the truck. The door lights have randomly been coming on. I thought it was the door switch. Removed the switch and nope still on. Drivers side has NO switch. It still happens regardless of whether the dome light is hooked up or not. Last night parked my truck and the dome light went off when I closed the door. This morning they were all on!!!!

    Nice cage.

Do you have a link to the light your using?

The light needs a power and ground and must be getting it somewhere? I'd verify the wires are not damaged, check the pin switch to make sure its not grounding against something when the door is closed?

The roll bar is a ground, maybe something in the light is not right?

I read on here that black with white stripe is 12v and black is ground so I attached the LED and everything worked good for like a day. Also it still happens without the light hooked up. It actually started before I put the led on. I thought it was a faulty switch but they stay on even with the switch removed

When I bought the truck the dome light was hooked up and worked perfect. I re did the cage and didn't re hook up the dome light until yesterday. Used the same two wires...works great the. Just stays in or comes on by itself and will not turn off

That's a tough one, you don't really know where those wires go or hook to. Id recommend you run a new ground wire directly to the pin switch, that should fix the problem.

You might want to pick up a cheap meter for troubleshooting, test voltages and what not...

Run a new ground from both door switches to the ground on my dome light ?

I don't care about the door lights I just want the dome light

If your factory ground wiring is malfunctioning (shorting to ground) causing lights to turn on randomly when they should be off, here are the options I see:

    • Trace the existing ground wire, the wire must be getting pinched somewhere, maybe when the roll cage was installed.
    • Run new ground wires.
    • Hook the power to access (meaning lights will only work with the key on).

Ok I see. I tried to trace the ground wire but it was extremely difficult since it goes under the dash. I was gonna just remove the bulbs from the side door and run a ground from both door switches to the led dome light . And leave the 12v power wire that goes to the dome light.
