    Excellent, thanks,
I did an oil change and added a little bit extra oil for protection in the snout.
Bad idea, the extra oil even through it was a small amount created added pressure that
blew out the seal a week later. So DONT add any extra oil if anything a little less. There is a lot of pressure in
the oil chamber with the heat of 300 degress and the spinning snout shaft.

Oh man. Yeaaaah, that's what I was just about to do! Thank you, you saved me a headache.

When a pierced the seal for removal there was a gush of pressure or vacuum.

Hope you don't mind John. But just want to update, because my seal failed after the first long drive(90mi). And I'd like to help anyone else avoid my headache.

    First off I have the 1st gen taco/black 2nd gen M62.
I tried seating the first new seal after it sat in the freezer for 6 hours. Used a 33mm socket to drive it in, but the seal's inner most riding lip flipped outwardly, displacing the spring and causing it to fling stinky SC oil all over. The snout shaft has a beveled edge that tapers up to where the seal rides. The bevel isn't drastic enough to easily allow the seal's inner lip to slide over the shaft. At least on a frozen seal.
I also noticed oil leaking on the outer-bottom edge of the seal to snout surface.

The second seal, I used a 15mm socket to spread the inner shaft riding edge of the seal. And threw it in the freezer. This allowed me to easily push the seal in by hand and the lip to easily slide over the shaft surface all while the seal was frozen. I then used anaerobic gasket sealer on the other edge of the seal to snout housing surface to alleviate any possible leak there, because my stock seal definitely had a blue gasket rtv type material from the factory there.

Mmm, I did not need to freeze my seal, it pushed in just fine, the seal needs a little lubricant on the
inside shaft to seat and not burn the seal lip. I’m curious if freezing the seal was the problem. I have
not heard of anyone freezing this particular seal to install it.

That may be part of issue. I usually freeze all my seals, dust boots, bushings and bearings.

Another issue may be that I drove the seal without first removing the oil fill screw, and the pressure had nowhere else to go.
