So, I am not a huge off-roader, in fact, this is my first truck. How well does a STOCK 2018 OR handle on the beach...mud...trails? Not looking to rock climb or anything serious, but would like to go ACTUAL camping and not in a campground...

Besides...I like the stock look and honestly can't afford all the off-road goodies! LOL20181103_174647.jpg

This truck does extremely well stock. Got my back in July and it drives like a quad off road. I came out of a Tundra and I'm much happier now that I can get into the smaller tracks. I was frankly amazed how well the Taco climbed.

beach great, super soft sand will get ya

mud rather well, super sloppy stuff will get ya

trails very good, mostly dependent of the driver

some nice 265 tires would be the one and only mod I can suggest from what I gather reading your post

Welcome to TW. You will find that it performs very well at stock conditions. However, the more time you spend on TW the more you will get bit by the mod bug. You could wake up one day down the road and all of a sudden your unassuming stock taco is now an overland machine. I have plans to go that route once it no longer has to be my daily driver.

You are totally fine for the beach (assume 4x4). You need to air down and get some stuff but no limitations from the stock truck itself.

Mud not so good; stock tires are wrong for “real mud”.

Green trails you are good to go (below):

Blue trails (below) you will want skids and sliders. Your steps will hang up on rocks etc.

The stock tires are a major limiting factor beyond that these trucks are very capable and will get you anywhere you want to go. If you are new to offroad look into a drivers course there are a lot of little things that make off pavement driving different that are hard to explain over the interwebs.

not so much it being a goodyear thing as much as a model specific thing...

im not saying your brand new rubber is garbage... just that it is not the greatest for the Muddy mud, Soft Sand and possible trails you may want to venture off on

Stock trim OR is pretty dang capable especially for what you are looking to do. I can't really tell you about the stock goodyears cause I ditched them before I turned 100 miles on the ODO. My current tire setup in 300+ miles of backcountry driving to hikes and camp spots off fairly bad forest roads have not even needed me to utilize 4wd even in a big rain storm and muddy roads. Pick up a portable air compressor like the viair so you can air the tires down at the beach or on the trails. You'd be surprised at just how far it can take you, probably well beyond your off road driving capabilities. I know a good wheeler could probably do things with my truck I never thought possible.

    Somewhere just north of Mexico

Stock tires are not ideal for off road, but mine took me from the beach in Galveston to the Alpine loop and Imogene Pass in Colorado. Replaced with Cooper ST Maxx after 45K miles. Go enjoy the truck, then upgrade them when you can

I'll echo what every one else has said, stock the truck can do alot. I did 75 miles of trails with skids and some new AT tires and kept up with heavily modified jeeps, 4runners and tacomas.

These trucks do great off road in stock form. The tires will do great in MOST conditions, but will struggle in sand or mud. Im stationed in the middle of the Mojave Desert and I sold the stock rubber on craigslist and bought a set of Falken Wildpeaks and they handle the sand much better.
If you want a totally free mod that will instantly make your rig more off-road capable, take off those steps.
