I haven't done any serious off roading with mine either, but like OP I just want to be able to reach more remote camping locations, and kiteboarding spots. Last month I was at a kitespot in Nevada, and a lot of trucks were getting stuck in the sand. Even with stock tires and not airing down, I drove through the same area other trucks were getting stuck, nice and slow with 4x4 and diff lock on, and the truck didn't slip at all.

Next month I'm driving down the baja peninsula to hit up some more remote kite spots, so that will be more of a test for the truck!

I spend multitudes of time on St. Augustine Beach.

I figured I was doomed to beach driving in my stock 4x4 with the factory micro 245/75/17's after reading this thread . Then I thought about the mass times I've drove on the beach when I had my 4x4 Explorer with similar tires. Never had any problems, other than the running boards dragging.

Hell I had a old non 4x4 Dakota and have drove thru some pretty deep sand and never got stuck, I've prayed a lot that nobody would walk in front of me causing me to stop thou. Knowing how to drive on the beach is almost as good as a set of aggressive tires.

The day i got mine I took it to Holy Jim Canyon in SoCal and it performed amazing. The only other vehicles on the trail with me that day were Jeeps that were all lifted + 35's at least. The jeeps probably had 8k+ in mods and my tacoma made it through stock. Yes i had to be a bit careful and slow at places but i was impressed. Since then its been in the desert, made 2 cross country trips, NJ beaches, and made it through a North NY winter without a single issue. Highly recommend Falken Wildpeak tires btw.

The Tacoma benefits greatly from being relatively lightweight in the sand. Full size trucks struggle mostly due to their weight. I’ve been a hardcore Jeeper for over thirty-five years. If you do any serious technical off-roading, the stock tires would be the first thing to let you down. Then the lack of rocker protection, then the skids and overhangs.

Just wanted to add that I got tired of how long it took to air my tired up and down for the beach, so I tried my 265s without airing down, and it was totally fine in fairly soft sand. I was shocked.

I've never aired down either. Sand isn't too deep where I drive, but there are a few challenging spots.

I’d say pretty damn well. Taken in my stock Tacoma. Only mod on it is a rear diff breather location, which takes about 15 mins and anyone can do it...

I’ve ran the stock tires through almost every condition. East coast clay and wet lake affect snow, did some rock crawling in Colorado and dealt with high mountain snow, and ran them through soft sand and rock in Utah and Arizona. Other than two road debris punctures and shit tread life they have everything surprisingly well.

The stock truck can run most moderate trails up to 5-6 ratings. Add skid plate and sliders and should be able to easy do everything up to 7
