Looked at an Access Cab last night with the munchkin in tow. In her forward facing seat, she'll fit with enough room for my wife to sit without her knees jammed against the glove box. I even tried with her behind my seat... I had to move my seat up a bit, but I could still sit mostly comfortably. I'm 6'1", so I definitely need more leg room, but I was comfortable enough for a decent trip. - Though a couple hours in that position, I might not be enjoying it too much. image1446708773881.jpg image1446708780154.jpg

So for our existing kid, it looks like it'll work. And since the next one won't even be in the works until at least next summer or fall, I've got at least 1.5 - 2 years before that becomes an issue. For the most part, if I'm taking the kid(s) anywhere, it will mostly be just me. If we're all going somewhere, the Explorer will probably be the vehicle of choice.

Don't go with AC if you have or will have kids. You'll regret it. I got a DC, although I have not tried an infant car seat (will try it in 7 months) but I don't see why you can't put it in the middle if you go with DC. Plenty of space/opening. I run 2 front facing child seats. No problem. My seat is moved up pretty close to the front, but not close where my knees are hitting the front. I'm 6'.

He said Tacoma doesnt have the LATCH system hooks for center of backseat. I have not checked mine personally, but i believe thats what he said earlier.

That is correct...at least for '14. You can still use the seat belt to install the car seat, just takes little more effort.

Very true, but it is my understanding that the latches are much safer than the belt. I have it very snug and tight and I use a noodle for the pool underneath so it is propped up just a bit so she can fall asleep if she wants. I might have to measure just how far apart they are in the middle versus the sides. But if I had to guestimate it would probably be an extra 2-3 inches. I barely had to adjust the belt to put the latches in.

Yea, per the ISOFIX standard (same at LATCH) the spacing center-to-center is 280mm (~11"). Can't be much further than that for the middle seat in the DC.

My daughter is 2 weeks away and I've test fit a rear facing seat. I can flip the passenger seat back flat and slide it forward, that gives enough room for the baby's seat. Then uncomfortably wedge my wife behind the driver seat.....or just drive the CX-5

The AC doesn't fit car seats well. The DC isn't the best for it either but it's passable.

Agreed. My little guy is 1 1/2 and it's been tough getting used to doing everything around him. Expecting a second at the end of February, a girl this time.

The truck is already spoken for though... it'll be his once he's old enough to drive it!

I used my access cab with one car seat it worked but the front seat was slide forward a lot of the time. 2 car seat is a no go it won't work or be tied in. I have a double cab now and it will safely hold 2 seats but there isn't much left in the back with 2 car seats. It's tight fit even in the double cab

I know it's not ideal but I have an 08 AC with my first child on the way. I still have 3.5 years left on my truck payment and can't afford a double cab. Wish I could!! I have been searching around here on TW and people have had "tight" success with a car seat in a AC. I'm wondering what car seats fit best in these tight spaces thanks.

Not sure if this will help, but here goes.

Our local police station does car seat installations, and when I had mine installed by them, my wife and I brought that up (what car seats work best with what cars). The officer said if we ever need to buy another seat, or car, we could call them and they would tell us what they suggest depending on what you are buying (new car or new seat).

So, based on that, I would say to try giving your local police station a call and see what they say. That is if they do the same thing ours does and offer car seat installs for the safety purpose of it.

    Hope that helps!

You could also just go to whatever place in your area sells them, and look for yourself. With the last one we bought, we were able to bring them out to the truck and test fit them.

Hold on guys, Isn't another option is to go ahead and get the AC, then install a shell camper.
Then all you have to do is strap the car seat to the Handy Man jack that's bolted to the rails in the back.

It keeps the kid dry and secure, plus when the little monster is having a bad day, you just close the sliding back window.
